Rasul Douglas would have come in handy this year. When they made that trade, I was puzzled. Trade a competent cornerback and a 5th round pick for just a 3rd round pick? Gute really upgraded at safety. We badly need a quality CB in free agency, and two more in the draft. Nixon, Valentine, Stokes and always hurt Jaire is pretty weak.

The Bears newest QB played very well. 70 yards on his runs, and he threw several beautiful passes. Give them some credit and as you said the Pack held them to 19 and won the game on the road. 46 yard yarder isn't automatic (although it's probably 85+%) and with the game on the line, the Packers made a play to win it. Good teams find a way. And then, there are teams like da bears.

LH, folks have to have something to complain about even in a win. It wasn’t always pretty, but da bears have a hell of a defense, it’s a rivalry, division game that’s the way it goes. It happens all day long in the NFL if folks would take the time to watch enough of it vs just looking for ways to complain about their team.

Defense still needs to get off the field on 3rd downs. Bears made too many 3rd down conversions. Packers red zone offense needs to get better. MLF decisions in the red zone are terrible. Should have kicked FG when the Packers were down 19 - 14 with a 4th a goal from the 5 with plenty of time in the game.
Great effort by Brooks to save the game. An ugly win but I'll take it. Brings on the 49ers. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

The Bears do suck. But they played better today. And more importantly, we aren’t very good.
At a certain point, the team is who it is. They barely squeak by bad teams. They have lost to the only 3 good teams they’ve played. Love has clearly regressed. The defensive line sucks. Jaire can’t get healthy. Walker sucks. The WRs have dropped TWENTY TWO passes in 10 games. This is one of the worst red zone and 3rd/4th down offenses in the league. They chew up yards. Then make critical mistakes. The defense can’t play situational football either.
I thought this was a Super Bowl Roster. I was wrong. They’re mediocre and undisciplined and they suck on the front 4. They’re mediocre and I expect them to make the playoffs as a wild card, then meekly bow out in short order.

''''''we barely squeak by''''
True, but I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Last year, our season ended when our offense couldn't get the job done on the final possession.
This year, we have REPEATEDLY scored on the final, game-deciding drive. And today, after having looked like a pile of regurgitated Old Style for much of the game, on the road and with our season in the balance......we did it again.
I'm disappointed in the offense so far this season, yet they ultimately deliver. We've lost ONE game this year...against Detroit...where the offense couldn't get enough points on the board. In our other two losses, we scored 29 points
We're 7-3. We're playing the 49ers next week with a chance to go 8-3. You see a lot of things wrong with this team, but I'm seeing a lot of strengths. Doubs, Reed, Kraft and Wicks caught a combined total of 3 passes and we won. We won two games with a backup QB. We've held 5 of our 10 opponents under 20 points. We won this game with Love completing 13 of 17 passes.(76%) 1 sack. 1 overthrow that was picked off.
I like teams that can win tough, ugly games. Let's see how we do against the 49ers next week before we give up on them.

MLF playing four dimensional chess. Keep the bears breathing and give them a sense of possibility to bring into next weeks game with the Vikings and they steal themselves a win.

I like teams that can win ugly tough games too. I would've felt a lot better if the D didn't go soft and shit the bed on 3rd and 19. Why not press more there? Why have the corners 12 yards off the ball when you know it's 4 down territory against a rookie qb? The packers should've lost this ugly game, and the packers are the reason this game was ugly, not the bears. They cannot get a pass rush. And unless valentine starts to build off of last year they are going to continue to give up big pass plays.

Even Tom Brady in the commentary booth questioned the design of that goal line set where the Packers went 4 and out.
The challenge by MLF was also a low percentage call.
Hats off to the Bears new OC (Brown). He really did a number on the Packers Smith-less right side defense - if it was one thing that Preston Smith could do, it was set and maintain an edge.

Packers get the win but still give plenty of red meat to the whiners. Oh well, I'll take it. Karl Brooks is the game MVP, as he was literally the difference between a win and a loss.
The Bears played a heck of a game. I was going to say that even if they won, because it's the truth. Great game plan by them, and Caleb Williams played smart and showed off his athleticism. They just don't have the downfield passing game developed yet. They are not capable of generating very many of those monster plays that Jordan Love had.
Most Packer fans badly underestimated the Bears, who were missing both starting OTs last week and had them back for this game.
Packers unfortunately do not look any better after the bye. I was hoping for a reset, but it looks like they will just have to grind it out the rest of the way and hope to catch fire by the end of the season so they can be a force in the playoffs.

The Packers are lucky the Bears have a black cloud hanging over their heads.
Brooks and Watson saved our hides to be sure. I was thankful the last big catch by Watson wasn't overturned, but no conclusive evidence for a reversal.
MLF must have been visited by the ghost of Marty Schottenheimer during the bye week...I appreciate the running game as much as anybody, but it seemed like we were giving the Bears the fuel to make this the competitive game that is was. Also didn't like the decision not to kick the field goal on fourth down at the 6-yard line--it's just too far and there was too much time left.
Defense: QB containment severely lacking, and not very good at getting off the field on third down, either. C. Williams deserves credit for making some nice throws, though... R. Johnson ran right over Quay for a short touchdown. The Bears had a big TOP advantage...Brenton Cox, Jr. had a couple of nice plays early on.
We take the W's anyway we can get them, but I would have liked to do better than barely escaping by the fingertips of Brooks.

Why, why, why do they continue to "go for it" when they don't have to? The Packers gave up 4 pts by foregoing a field goal and PAT which would have made the score 24-19. 3. Defense- When will the arm tackling and the bump tackling end? A junior high player even knows " hips, hips, hips. You'll never get head faked if you focus on hips and NEVER ARM TACKLE, PUT YOUR SHOULDER IN IT."

If you watched Love last year, even during his great run he got away with a lot of pcikable throws. I brought that up multiple times during the off season on reasons why or why not give him 55M per year. Like it or not, and not unlike Favre, It’s the way he plays the game. He makes awesome throws and than a WTH type of throw. Get used to it, I don’t think he will change his style of play. Will he learn to throw more away, I hope so, but I do like it that he’s willing to also take a chance and go for it unlike Rodgers towards the end of his career with the Packers.

I don't get it. Love doesn't appear to be progressing in his development. I haven't watched the film to confirm this, but either he had only one guy open all game or he quit looking at who was open. His hero passes to Watson were great, but where is that intermediate passing attack that the team used so well last year? I bet they were open, but too many deep shots for my taste. In other words lucky that Watson caught those passes that he did.
CBs on the Packers are deep, but not that good....

Love was 13 of 17 for 261 yards. FOUR incomplete passes all day (including one drop and one throwaway), and you're still complaining.
GregC
November 17, 2024 at 04:28 pm
Looking at the box score: Jordan Love was 13 of 17 for 261 yards, while Caleb Williams was 23 of 31 for 231 yards.
So our QB averaged 20 yards per completion while their QB averaged exactly half that. That's how the Bears were able to do almost everything right and still not quite get the W. Obviously this is not a sustainable formula for the Packers, but it was enough to squeak out a win on an off day against a very determined opponent in front of a fired up crowd.
I hope everyone appreciates, at least on some level, that we have just witnessed a CLASSIC Packers win over the Bears. This one will be talked about for awhile. This, after all, was the debut of their #1 overall draft pick QB against the Packers. Also, it's significant that the Bears kicker did NOT choke. The Packers won the game because one of their players, Karl Brooks, made a fantastic play at a key moment. It was not luck that won the game, it was a great play.

Offensive accolades to Jacobs and Watson. Jacobs ran hard all day and protected the ball. He had a workload. Watson made some great grabs and put up 150. Very nice. That's about it for offensive players with notable snap counts.
I was at a watch party at a bar and when things were looking bleak I said I was on my way out to buy a carton of milk so I could find a picture of Rashan Gary. Then lo and behold he finally got home and got one. Other than Brooks getting that hand on the field goal attempt I can't cite anyone or anything about the defense today as being at all good. Maybe the early sack by Cox. This was the Hafley defense's worst looking game so far and it didn't seem like it adjusted at all. Maybe they just prepared for something totally different than what Chicago's new OC brought out but they did not look good. Tackling was poor, allowing 3rd and 4th down conversions was poor, getting adequate pressure was not all that good either.
The trade away of Preston Smith is supposed to give some younger players the opportunity to step up. Maybe the money freed up from that move can bring in a free agent to actually show them how to step up because the draft and develop crowd doesn't look like they have it (looking your way LVN).

LeFleur's RedZone play calling is atrocious. Enough with the Jayden Reed sweeps or outside runs at that point unless you have some serious misdirection called. The field is condensed. The DB's are closer to the line of scrimmage. It's the time for some biggly's. Kraft is 6'5". Watson is 6'5". Put up a jump ball. Call a heavy run scheme for Jacobs. I think there are foundational issues, primarily Defensive, which the Packers cannot currently fix but will need to ASAP
The Pass Rush and Corner rooms are essentially vacant.
-In the future before renewing big contracts, take a real objective look @ that person's production and character.
I put Gary, Clark and Alexander in that bucket. Those 3 are consistent 'no-shows'
-Before expending Draft Capital on a player-focus on real football ability, not RAS.
Evaluate their character, ie., ask about locker room presence, are they a' team' guy or a 'me' guy-Gary and Alexander are 'me' guys-those types become no-shows.
Nixon, Walker & LVN are problems that never get solved.
In total: there is a critical mass of poor defensive players with issues that won't be solved, ie.character & competence.
I still have faith in Love. I saw his talent last year.

Good points people. For me, imo both teams played even. There was no domination. passing game was on and off, running game on off, defense ditto.
Matter of fact if the hc of the bears wasn't the dumbest coach in football we would have lost. His bonehead decision to not run two more plays and get closer versus just standing around running your own clock down is mindless. Thank you you'll be fired soon.
I would add, I now have a clear idea of who Love is and it's not pretty. He is the interception machine he was is college by making poor decisions and not being able to read defenses. His pass to Watson he looked his way the whole time never looking at anyone else. D backs thrive off guys like that. your going nowhere against the best defenses. He ran in the RedZone fearing another interception good luck with that.

Jordan Love's stat line: 13 of 17 for 261 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 113.0 rating. Also a rushing TD. He made one bad throw and had the bad luck to have it intercepted. Another incompletion was a drop, and another was a throwaway. He averaged 15 yards per attempt. Oh, and a game-winning TD drive on the final possession, just for good measure. Running in the red zone was maybe not such a bad idea at the end after all? Good QBs find ways to win games, which is what Jordan Love did today.

and a couple of very lucky deep balls, one into double coverage and one had to be reviewed and was very close..these two passes could have easily gone the other way...

Yeah, one PERFECTLY THROWN pass into double coverage to a receiver who was expecting the ball and was covered by two defenders who had no idea where the ball was...and OH MY GOODNESS...one pass that almost wasn't caught! How horrible! A 60 yard completion that led to the game-winning score, on a throw that had zero chance of being intercepted, and all you can do is cry, cry cry!

Pittsburgh has a package of plays for Justin Fields. Maybe LaFleur should consider something similar for Malik Willis in the red zone. LaFleur has been spitting the bit inside the 20.

A win is a win but it didn’t feel like a win at all! What stuck out most to me was (1) how these young players made some great individual plays to win and (2) how badly coached GB was - on both offense and defense. This was a players win, not a coaching win. Hadley looks like the next coming of Joe Barry playing weak ass zones - especially on 3rd downs!! Everyone knew that CHI was going to a short passing game and use Willams legs. Everyone except Hadley evidently. Terrible, terrible game plan. And MLFs play calling on offense was dreadful. 2nd and 1 and MLF was passing in the red zone which led to an interception? And then a poor running play called on the 2 point conversion? Ridiculous. For once, our ST coaching was better than offense and defense. MLF and Hafley should man up and admit they coached badly.

Winning is always good, but winning like this against a team like the Bears? Not great.
This team has a problem playing consistently good football. I hope they can stabilize before they face the 49ers, because I can’t stand the thought of another loss to those bastards.

Between us guys, TK, cuz I'm still a bit hacked that Nagler jettisoned the bullet points in favor of his massive. pasty mug bloviating ad nauseum (which I refuse to watch btw), but that's not important right now. I thought for a bust that can't stay healthy and a fragile athlete that's just another example of Gute's inability to recognize talent with character and not just snazzy RASs, I thought he had a nice day. I think he's a solid blocker, too, for a guy who never blocks.
Which brings me to the fact that we are 7-3 and today we won a game against a division rival on the road. They don't ask "how", they ask "how many" and I don't give a rats' patoot if this wasn't a decisive enough win over a formidable enough opponent. It was a division win on the back of a ST play. Yeah, STs!
As far as pure entertainment value, there were moments where the Packers delivered. Jacobs, especially with his invitation for the DB to "come get some of this" rather than running out of bounds. There were sacks. We punted once. We committed only three penalties. Jordan had some struggles, but I'm damn sure not going to be a whiney little piss baby about how the Packers shouldn't have gone all in on him. He's going to be our QB for a long time. The f*ck is wrong with you people?
So, at 7-3, we have Kyle the Genius coming to town with his superior mind, superior coaching staff, superior roster and world-class GM, I suppose we should just mail it in or forfeit, because, after all, sometimes the game puts Coach Matt in a headlock and we should kick him to the curb and get someone new who's tough and brilliant, like Kyle the genius. Or what's left of Andy Reid. I'm likely going to watch the game and pull for the Packers to win. Playing one game at a time is how this works, I guess.
Thank you in advance for your time and attention. Amen.

My exact sentiments re the 9’rs.
Sick of their smug GM, overrated coach, and bloated team of free agents.

As is the norm, I am squarely on the same page as you, amigo.
And the use of “bloviating” is one of life’s little bonuses that I’ll always appreciate!

I turned it off after the first quarter-Gary, Clark and Van Ness should be benched. Put Mosby and Cox out there.
It can't be worse.

Why does the Packers defense seem to always make the opponents' quarteback look like a future HOFer? Caleb had 70 yards rushing, 1 shy of Swift, the teams leader today.

GB hasn't evaluated good 1st round defensive players in the Draft--Wyatt, Walker, LVN, Gary,
These are expensive vets (xcept LVN) who should be carrying the team.
Though they made much better choices most recently -Cooper, Williams, Wilson, Bullard

Thank you!. I wish someone would press MLF on his shitty decisions. I'll take the W but we didn't deserve it. Not because of the players but the bone head coaching decisions. Not taking the 3.. let's see. Matt says he didn't know if they'd get the ball back then says , immediately we were hoping for a stop if we didn't make it?! Huh? That makes no sense.
The other was the PERPETUAL MLF challenge of an obvious play that shouldn't be challenged. Vice- versa MLF never challenges when he should. For a guy that comes up with genius game plans he sure can be an idiot while - in game decision making. We in in spite of MLF

We could really have used CB Cooper DeJean. I never question Gute on drafts but apparently sometimes the draft analysts, not to mention the fans get it right. We have a grade A CB in Jaire but if he is sidelined with injuries 60% of the time he becomes a C at best. Philadelphia drafted DeJean and Quentin Mitchell and they have turned their entire Eagle defense around. Detroit and Philadelphia are now the teams to beat in the NFC . Next week is essentially a playoff game for the Pack with the Forty Niners. And, in case you didn't know it they have sadly "owned" the Packers for a number of years now.

Here’s what is likely to be an unpopular take:
During the regular season, we want the team to perform well enough/win enough games to make the playoffs. Cumulative season offensive and defensive rankings be damned, I say.
Once the team is IN the playoffs, ask yourself, “Fourth quarter, 5 minutes left, trailing by 6, can the offense move the ball and score against what will likely be a tough defense?”
And/or, 4th qtr, GB leads by 6 with 5 minutes left. Can the GB defense protect that lead against a top tier QB and offensive unit?
All the rest is sound, fury, and bluster.
So there it is. There are no guarantees in the NFL. Either hang on tight and enjoy the ride, or hop off the wagon now.

Firat let me say, a win, ugly or not, is still a win. That being said, there's some kudos to be thrown out for Watson, Cox, Brooks, and Jacobs. Now for the fickle finger of fate awards- Coach LaFleur; love you to death coach, but that was some poor decision making out there and still managing to win. The defense-four hundred yards gained by a team that the prior game couldn't muster more than a field goal. The tackling was atrocious, couldn't get off the field on third down. The pass rush, or lack thereof, yeah there were three sacks, but two were in the last drive but went for naught as the bears managed to drive the field on the way to a missed FG. Finally the officials who created a new penalty "Touching the passer" on the Mckenney touch on the sidelines. Bottom line, we played down to the Bears and got away with it but, a win Is a win. GO PACK GO!
