Soren Petro of Sportsradio 810 WHB in Kansas City reports that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed third-round tight end Tony Moeaki.
Per Petro, no terms were released.
Moeaki spent his first two seasons in a reserve role at the University of Iowa, catching 19 passes for 252 yards and 3 touchdowns in 25 games. Moeaki moved into a starting role in 2007, and was off to a hot start, catching 14 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns before suffering a wrist injury that ended his season.
Moeaki received a medical redshirt, which allowed him to play two more seasons for the Hawkeyes, where he caught 43 passes for 531 yards and 5 touchdowns in just 19 games (11 starts).
During his 36-game career, Moeaki caught 76 passes for 953 yards and 11 touchdowns, and was a willing and effective blocker. If the 6-3, 245-pound Moeaki can stay healthy, he could earn a starting role very early in his NFL career.
