Moss Willing to Sit Out Season
By admin
Recently waived wide receiver Randy Moss is willing to sit out the rest of the season if he does not like the team that claims him, reports Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald.
The Minnesota Vikings exposed Moss to the waiver wire on Tuesday, meaning the other 31 NFL teams have until 4pm ET on Wednesday to put a claim in. Several teams, including the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets, have stated that they would not put in claims on Moss.
In eight games this season, Moss has 22 receptions for 313 yards and 5 touchdowns.
After spending the off-season expressing his displeasure with his contract situation--Moss is earning $6.4 million in the final year of a 3-year, $27M contract--Moss asked the New England Patriots to trade him after Week 1.
New England traded Moss to the Vikings for a third-round pick on October 5.
Reports have surfaced that Moss told teammates he was "one and done" in his return to the Vikings, telling them that he couldn't play for head coach Brad Childress. Moss reportedly berated a caterer during lunch inside the Vikings' locker room, and had questionable practice and in-game habits, which contributed to his release on Tuesday.
It's also worth noting that Moss openly quit on the 2006 Oakland Raiders, prompting many NFL observers to conclude that he had "lost a step", which along with his massive contract, allowed the Patriots to pluck him from Oakland for a 2007 fourth-round draft pick (CB, John Bowie). A surprisingly motivated Moss re-emerged to have a monster season in 2007, catching 98 passes for 1,493 yards and 23 touchdowns, helping New England to a 16-0 regular season record.
New England's Super Bowl hopes came up short, but for his efforts, Moss received 10 "Comeback Player of the Year" votes, the first time AP voters acknowledged the debilitating condition known as "boredom" as a legitimate affliction to come back from.
