Giants Sign Pair of Picks

The New York Giants have agreed to terms with fifth-round guard Mitch Petrus, the team announced on Wednesday.

Financial terms of the four-year deal were not disclosed.

Petrus began his college career at Arkansas as a walk-on, seeing playing time at guard, tight end, and fullback as a freshman in 2005 before exclusively playing fullback during the '06 season.

In 2007, Petrus was moved to the offensive line, starting 12 of 13 games at left guard, earning second-team All-SEC honors. Ruled academically ineligible for the '08 season, Petrus returned to start 13 games at right guard in 2009, earning first-team All-SEC honors after the season.

The 6-3, 310-pound Petrus did 45 reps on the bench press at the 2010 Scouting Combine, but was not able to do any agility drills after pulling his hamstring while running the 40-yard dash. Petrus is regarded as an agile lineman, and is expected to back up Chris Snee and Rich Seubert during his rookie season.

Staying busy, the New York Giants have also agreed to terms with seventh-round punter Matt Dodge.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Dodge began his college career at Appalachian State University, but opted to transfer to East Carolina after the 2005 season. Dodge (6-2, 224) had a net average of 43.5-yards per punt during his three seasons with the Pirates.

After the release of Jy Bond earlier this week, Dodge is the only punter on the Giants' roster.
