Ducasse, Slauson to Compete for Alan Faneca's Old Job

The New York Jets used a second-round pick on University of Massachusetts offensive tackle Vladimir Ducasse, and Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Ducasse will be asked to do two things:

1. Learn a new position
2. Compete for a starting job on an offensive line that paved the way for the NFL's #1-ranked rushing attack in 2009

"When any of these players come in, it's important that they kind of wipe out mentally what they've ever done in the past," Jets offensive line coach Bill Callahan told the Daily News. "So when they come to us, we start from scratch. We take nothing for granted. So this process is all the same whether they come from the University of Michigan or UMass. It doesn't matter. We try to treat them all the same in that respect."

Ducasse will compete with 2009 sixth-round pick Matt Slauson for the starting left guard job, which was opened when the Jets released 9-time Pro Bowler Alan Faneca after the draft.

No pressure, kid.
