Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports the Arizona Cardinals have signed third-round wide receiver Andre Roberts.
Per Wilson, Roberts received a signing bonus of nearly $724,000, making his four-year deal worth $2.51 million dollars. A fourth-year base salary escalator could push the total value of Roberts' deal to over $3.24 million dollars.
A record-setting receiver for The Citadel, the 5-11, 195-pound Roberts hauled in 285 passes for 3,743 yards and 37 touchdowns in his 45-game career. Roberts receptions and yards place second in Southern Conference history, and he established a school record with 94 receptions and 1,334 yards during his junior season.
Roberts also possesses game-breaking ability as a punt-returner, averaging 15.0 yards on 65 returns during his career, including 19.2 yards per return with 4 touchdowns as he led the conference in punt returns.
Roberts’ sensational junior season (1,923 yards) and 19 touchdowns made him a finalist for the 2008 Walter Payton Award, which was won by Applachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards, who was chosen one spot behind Roberts in the 2010 NFL Draft.
In Arizona, Roberts will compete with Early Doucet for the #3 receiver role, and will handle the punt return duties, as Steven Breaston replaces Anquan Boldin in the starting lineup.
