Remembering Mason Crosby’s Best Moments with the Packers
By GilMartin

Former Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this week.
Crosby’s place in franchise history is secure. He is the Packers all-time leading scorer with 1,918 points. He is also the team’s all-time leader with 258 games played, which is three more than Brett Favre.
Crosby was the Packers kicker in 2010 when they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers to win Super Bowl XLV.
Off the field, Packers fans shared personal struggles with Crosby when his wife overcame a rare type of lung cancer.
Crosby will enter the Packers Hall of Fame as soon as he is eligible and will be looked at as an all-time great Packer. He topped 100 points in 15 of his 16 seasons with the team and holds the franchise record with a 58-yard field goal kicked back in 2011.
Here is a look back at Crosby’s game-winning field goals with the Packers:
September 9, 2007: Packers 16, Eagles 13
Crosby didn’t waste any time making an impact. He kicked the game-winning field goal in his very first game as a pro.
Jarrett Bush pounced on a muffed punt at the Philadelphia 31 with 59 seconds left in a 13-13 game. Three plays later, Crosby booted a 42-yard field goal to win the game for the Pack.
December 4, 2011: Packers 38, Giants 35
The Packers were 11-0 coming into this game and trying to keep their chance at a perfect season alive. The Giants came back to tie the game with 58 seconds left on an Eli Manning touchdown pass to Hakeem Nicks and a two-point conversion.
Aaron Rodgers managed to lead the Packers downfield to set up the winning score. Key plays on the drive included a 24-yard pass to tight end Jermichael Finley and a 27-yard pass to Jordy Nelson. The last play from scrimmage for the Packers was an 18-yard pass to Greg Jennings for 18 yards which put the ball on the Giants 12 with three seconds left.
Crosby nailed the 31-yard field goal to give the Packers the win and keep their undefeated season alive.
December 18, 2016: Packers 30, Bears 27
The Packers held a 27-10 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Bears tied the game with 1:19 left when Connor Barth kicked a field goal with 1:19 left in the game.
The Packers got the ball back with no timeouts but still managed to move downfield for the winning score. The key play was a 3rd-and-11. Rodgers threw deep down the middle to Nelson and gained 60 yards to the Chicago 14. After Rodgers spiked the ball, Crosby kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired for the win.
January 15, 2017: Packers 34, Cowboys 31
In the NFC Divisional Playoffs, Crosby kicked two field goals of 50 yards or more in the final two minutes of the game to help the Packers pull off a dramatic road victory.
With 1:38 left, Crosby made a clutch, 56-yard kick to put the Packers ahead 31-28 with 1:38 left in regulation. The kick set a new Packers playoff record for the longest field goal.
Dallas rallied to tie the game with 40 seconds left in regulation. Rodgers led the Packers back into field goal range. The key play was a 36-yard pass to tight end Jared Cook who got both feet in bounds to make the catch and stop the clock.
Crosby then hit on a 51-yard field goal as time expired as the Packers won 34-31 and advanced to the NFC Championship Game. That made two kicks of 50-plus yards in the final 1:38 of a playoff game.
September 24, 2017: Packers 27, Bengals 24
The Packers and Bengals were tied 24-24 after regulation and the game headed to overtime.
The Packers winning field goal was set up by a 72-yard pass to wide receiver Geronimo Allison. Crosby kicked a 27-yard field goal with 6:26 left in OT to win the game for Green Bay.
October 15, 2018: Packers 33, 49ers 30
Rodgers led the Packers to a comeback win over the 49ers on Monday Night Football.
The 49ers were driving for the winning score when Kevin King picked off a pass at the Green Bay 10 with 1:10 left in a tie game. After a 21-yard run by Ty Montgomery, Rodgers scrambled for 21 yards and then found Adams for 16 more yards.
With time running out, Crosby kicked a 27-yard field goal to win the game.
October 14, 2019: Packers 23, Lions 22
The Packers trailed 13-0 early and 22-13 in the fourth quarter in a game they never led until the final play.
This was Allen Lazard’s coming out party. He made four catches for 65 yards and a touchdown in his first major action on offense.
Crosby made a 23-yard field goal as time expired to give the Pack the win.
December 29, 2019: Packers 23, Lions 20
The Pack overcame a 17-3 halftime deficit to beat the Lions for the second time that season without holding a lead until the final play of the game.
Blake Martinez made a key interception to set up the tying touchdown pass from Rodgers to Lazard. Then a 31-yard toss to Aaron Jones set up Crosby for the 33-yard kick to win it as time expired.
The win clinched a first-round bye for the Packers in the playoffs.
September 26, 2021: Packers 30, 49ers 28
The Packers won this back-and-forth game on the game’s final play when Crosby kicked a 51-yard field goal. Rodgers had just 37 seconds to rally the Packers from a 28-27 lead. He found Adams twice on key catches to set up the winning kick. It was Crosby’s second kick of 50-or-more yards of the game.
October 10, 2021: Packers 25, Bengals 22
Crosby missed three field goals and an extra point in this game, but he managed to redeem himself in overtime. Rodgers threw key completions to Marcedes Lewis and Randall Cobb to set up a 49-yard, game-winning kick by Crosby with 2:00 left in overtime.
October 2, 2022: Packers 27, Patriots 24
Crosby kicked the game-winning field goal with no time left in overtime to give the Packers a 27-24 win over New England. The 31-yard kick capped a 12-play, 77-yard drive that started on the Green Bay 10 and featured a 22-yard pass to Lazard and a pair of catches by Romeo Doubs.
The win got the Pack off to a 3-1 start before a losing streak ruined Rodgers’ last season in Green Bay.
November 13, 2022: Packers 31, Cowboys 28
The Packers trailed 28-14 entering the fourth quarter but tied the game on a pair of touchdown passes to Christian Watson who enjoyed his big breakout game in his rookie season.
Rodgers found Lazard on a 36-yard pass to set up what would be the final game-winning kick of Crosby’s Packers career from 28 yards out with just 3:06 left in overtime.

My neighbor is a Cowboys fan. We have a standing bet (six pack of favorite beer to the winner) every time the Packers play the Cowboys. Crosby's clutch FG kicks have gotten me free beer, but more importantly, bragging rights for at least another year. Cheers to you, Mason!

I know the list is chronological, but the Dallas playoff game belongs at the top; probably the most satisfying Packer victory for me other than the Super Bowls.

Good stuff, Gil. Mason also had some solid tackles on kickoff returns over the course of his career. One that stands out in my memory was against Minnesota. Corrdarelle Patterson was close to taking it all the way, near the 50 yard line when Mason channeled his inner Peanut Tillman (pardon the Bears reference) and made a tackle where he intentionally punched the ball free. Packers recovered. Vikings were sad.
Another thing I'll never forget about Mason is training camp; watching him autograph footballs and hand them over the fence to kids in wheelchairs. Good man.

The Mason punch-out tackle is still one of my favorite Packer plays ever!

Gil always figures a new way to kick off an article. Those kicks listed brought back some memories.
Always sad and makes me feel old (probably because I am) to watch another generation of players retire.

I still remember that first game winning kick against Philly in 2007. That was the first time a friend of mine had heard me during a Packers game. She still gets a kick out of me when I watch a Packers game. Normally I'm a somewhat cool, quiet, reserved man, I turn into a bit a of a nut while watching the Packers. That 2007 season was something and Crosby was a big reason why.
Have a great retirement Mason, it's well deserved!
