Packers vs Giants: Gameday Preview - 2025 Week 11
A Meadowlands visit to get back on track
By GregMeinholz

We're in the Meadowlands today as the Green Bay Packers are set to take on the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium at 12 PM CST. Today may not be a "desperate must-win" game for the Packers, but it sure has that feeling. Last week, the now 5-3-1 Packers fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 10-7 in a defensive struggle of a game where, even though the Eagles have a good defense, it felt more like the Packers couldn't get out of their own way on offense. The Giants, sitting at 2-8, are coming off a 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears, where they lost a 10-point lead in the 4th quarter, and just recently had their head coach, Brian Daboll, fired. They will be looking for a little redemption today. Both teams will be desperate to perform well today, but under differing circumstances.
The last time these two teams met was December 11th, 2023, in a game many Packers fans would like to forget. The Giants defeated the Packers 24-22 with a field goal in the final seconds. That's not why fans would like to forget, though. The Packers' defense at the time under Joe Barry allowed third-string QB Tommy DeVito to go 17/21 through the air for 158 yards and a touchdown, and run the ball 10 times for 71 yards. It was at the Packers' expense that the Tommy DeVito phenomenon was born, and it really went no further after that. DeVito is currently just barely holding on to the QB3 position with the New England Patriots. Coincidentally, the Packers are facing another QB3 today in Jameis Winston, but unlike DeVito at the time, Winston is a capable veteran who should not be taken lightly.
Last week, many Packers fans hit the panic button. Normally, a three-point loss to the defending Super Bowl Champions still in contending form would be considered "not too bad." But that's only tolerable when the final score is maybe along the lines of 24-21. Not 10-7. The Packers' defense got the job done in limiting the often-potent Eagles' offense to only 10 points. But the Packers' offense couldn't get a thing going, only putting up 7, and that was late in the game. When you try to pinpoint the problem, several factors come up. The offensive line didn't hold up well to keep Jordan Love comfortable, play calling seemed very stale and predictable at times, and overall, there was just a lack of discipline and execution. The Packers desperately need to get things right before it's too late.
Today could serve as a "get right" game for the Packers, but they can't take their opponent too lightly.
What to See on Offense
Normally, I start this section with the pass, but not today, we're kicking it off with the run. The Packers' running game this season has been nothing short of inconsistent. It has its moments where it just looks brilliant, Josh Jacobs bursts right through for a decent-sized gain, and we think we're improving. But then the next play you see nearly the entire offensive line getting pushed back on a run call with Josh Jacobs getting swallowed in the backfield, and you wonder if the line even knew their own play call. To make matters worse, center Elgton Jenkins is now out for the season with a leg injury. Oddly enough, however, Jenkins' replacement, Sean Rhyan, did pretty well in relief on Monday night. Rhyan is playing for a second contract now with his rookie deal expiring after this season, so we'll see how things stack up with him in the middle.
This week could be the perfect game for the running attack to find its footing. The Giants' run defense ranks second-last in the league, giving up 152.1 yards per game on the ground. If there were ever a chance to "get right" in the running game, it's today.
On to the pass. If this were last year, I'd be a bit more comfortable against this Giants pass rush. But given how uncomfortable Jordan Love was last week against the Eagles, we're seeing that things are different in 2025. The Giants' pass rush may not offer a break today. Between Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dexter Lawrence, and rookie Abdul Carter, the New York defense has many players capable of getting after the QB. But the sack numbers haven't quite shown it yet. Brian Burns leads the team with 11 sacks, but then there is a significant drop off to Thibodeaux with 2.5. Abdul Carter and Dexter Lawrence only have a half sack each.
This fact could work to the Packers' advantage, where the line may be able to keep Jordan Love clean, or it could be a disaster with those pass rushers finally getting on track. Let's hope the Packers' offensive line is the one that takes the step forward.
In the secondary, the Giants rank 23rd against the pass. CB Dru Phillips leads the team in INTs and in passes defensed with two and nine, but Phillips holds half the team's interception total, with a quarter of it held by a defensive tackle in Dexter Lawrence. Seemingly, the entire Packers receiving corps appeared on the injury report this week, but according to Christian Watson, he's good to go, and the medical staff is just "going to do what they have to do." Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks were basically removed from the list, as well as Watson. Matthew Golden may be the only question mark heading into today's game with that group, as he didn't play the previous game, but with Malik Heath out today and no practice squad receiver being brought up, I think it's a safe bet that Golden may be good to go. Malik Heath was a surprise healthy scratch, per coach's decision. In fact, Heath didn't even make the trip to New York. The Packers run a pretty tight ship, always have, so there's a chance we never find out the true reason unless it's directly addressed. But otherwise, if the offensive line can keep Jordan Love clean, we may see some good numbers for the pass catchers today.
Matt LaFleur is always looking to establish the run. Today may be one of his best chances to do so. If he does, the run should easily open up the pass, and we will hopefully see the Packers' offense perform as expected.

What to See on Defense
At one point this season, it looked like the Giants had the makings of an exciting young offense. Rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart was taking over at quarterback, another rookie, running back Cam Skattebo, was breaking out, and second-year receiver Malik Nabers was ready to shine with his new QB. What more could head coach Brian Daboll have asked for? Fast forward six weeks, and now Brian Daboll is out as head coach, Jaxson Dart is in concussion protocol, and both Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo are on injured reserve. Wow, a lot can change in a few weeks.
Jameis Winston will be at the helm today for the Giants' offense. This will be Winston's first start in a Giants uniform, and who knows which Jameis Winston is going to play today. He's always had an up-and-down career where he can be brilliant, throwing three touchdowns and no INTs, but then boneheaded, throwing no TDs and three INTs. Unfortunately for Winston, the Giants' offensive line has struggled mightily in protecting the quarterback, giving up 31 sacks so far this season. Winston isn't the most mobile player anymore, so the Packers' pass rush may have an opportunity to steal the show.
With Malik Nabers out for the season, the weapons available to Jameis Winston aren't exactly stellar, but WR Wan'Dale Robinson leads the team with 602 receiving yards, well ahead of Darius Slayton, who's second with 343 yards. They have Theo Johnson at TE, who can be a red zone threat, and unfortunately, we know how the Packers are often prone to giving up big games to tight ends; however, it hasn't been too damaging as of late.
Overall, this should be a favorable matchup for the Packers' secondary and pass rush. Lukas Van Ness returned to practice this week and is questionable for today's game. We'll have to see if he'll have the chance to cash in on this matchup as well upon his return.
On to the run. Micah Parsons was criticized for his play against the run this week. A narrative that was started in Dallas has followed him here, and I have to give a short comment on the matter. Folks, just because a player doesn't make the tackle against the run doesn't mean they're bad at it. There are 11 players on each side of the ball for a reason, and they all have a role to play. You watch a few of the running plays from Monday night, and you easily see Micah Parsons setting the edge on running plays, forcing the running back inside, and into the arms of a linebacker. That, my friends, is good against the run. Parsons recognizes the play, sets the edge to take the back's options away, and allows his teammates to make the play.
Okay, on to today's game. Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary have taken over as a kind of duo in replacement of Cam Skattebo, and so far, they haven't been much to write home about. After being gashed by Rico Dowdle two weeks ago, the Packers rose to the occasion in holding Saquon Barkley to only 60 yards on 22 carries. That was an outstanding performance.
We may see a bit more of Tracy Jr. and Singletary today. Given this is Winston's first start in a Giants uniform, they might rely on the run a little bit more to help open things up, but I just don't see that being a good idea against the Packers, who sit at 6th in the league against the run.
The Packers have a suffocating defense that can control this game; we need to see it happen again today.
Extra Notes
Can we not talk about kickers this week? Oh, wait, we have to? Fine, let's get this over with.
One of the joys of training camp was not caring about the kicking game; it was fine, everything was good, but now in the last month, it's been all about the kickers, and Brandon McManus is ranked 39th out of 39 qualified kickers in field-goal percentage. Yes, that means in a league of 32 teams, six backup kickers have been kicking better than our starting kicker. I'll allow you to pause for a bit and let that sink in. That's right, we can't have nice things. McManus was off the injury report this week, for a second, but now he's back on and listed as doubtful for today's game. My guess is that we're getting Lucas Havrisik today. If Havrisik has another great showing, it's going to be rough sailing for the Packers, as they'll have to decide on McManus. Does he get shelved for the season? Do they run him out next week against Minnesota if he's "better"? We shall see.
The Giants just had their kicker, Graham Gano, placed on IR, and now Younghoe Koo is looking to take over kicking duties. Maybe on our trip to the Big Apple, we can leave our kicking issues with the Giants, sorry, New York fans.
Gunner Olszewski gives the Giants a good return game, averaging 28 yards per return on kicks and 9 yards average on punts, with a long of 21. Can they pass some of that luck on to the Packers as well? Between Romeo Doubs and Savion Williams, I feel like we don't really have a returner.
Punting, Jamie Gillan averages 44.3 yards per punt, which is towards the bottom of the barrel at 28th in the league, while Packers punter Daniel Whelan continues to be the only shining beacon of hope on special teams, averaging 51.1 yards per punt, which is tied for third in the league.
In the End
As said before, this is a "get right" game for Green Bay. But the Giants can't be taken lightly, especially given that they're coming off their head coach being fired the week before. As noted in the past, many teams seem to rise to the occasion and perform well for their interim head coach. The Packers simply cannot afford to be on the losing end of that statistic. With all the adversity the team has faced in the last week, it's their time to hush the critics.
Next week starts a brutal stretch of the season where the Packers will face NFC North opponents in five of their last seven games to wrap up the regular season. This starts with the Minnesota Vikings coming to town. Hopefully, the Packers come out of New York victorious today and ready to enter the next week with some momentum. Go Pack Go.

If there was ever a game where flipping the script on the turnover story for the 2025 Packers would help, this one's it.
As solid as this defense has been, it's been a minute since there's been a defensive turnover play that made the scoreboard.
Today's as good a day as any, with Winston perhaps willing to add to the cause.
At any rate, just win the damn game.

A local Wisconsin newspaper confirmed that Havrisik will be the Packers' kicker today. McManus is out with a strained quad.
I have been unable to find any report that McManus reinjured his quad. This seems to be the same quad injury that has plagued him most of the season. If so, why the heck was McManus doing the kicking the last few weeks? Havrisik is perfect in field goals and PATs so far this year and he was available for activation. Yet the coaching staff (Bisaccia? LaFleur?) chose to use the injured kicker.
What would the Packers' record be if Havrisik made most or all of the kicks McManus missed over the last few weeks? Just another head scratching coaching decision made by the Packer "brain trust".

Apparently he "aggravated" his injury on Friday afternoon/Saturday. He went from full participation in practice last week to doubtful yesterday.
"What would the Packers' record be if Havrisik made most or all of the kicks McManus missed over the last few weeks?"
What would be the Packers' record if they could find ways to finish drives instead of relying on long kicks? That's the key to their season...not who the kicker is.

My point was more about the decision process than the kicker. One more log on the fire in terms proper decision making. Lots of questionable decisions do not help get the Packers to the Super Bowl.

Inactives:
Out injured
1. DE Lukas Van Ness
2. CB Nate Hobbs
3. K Brandon McManus
Healthy Scratch:
4. OL Donovan Jennings
Out by coaches decision:
5. WR Malik Heath
No one elevated.
Giants inactives (on active roster):
1. QB Jaxson Dart
2. DL Chauncey Golston
3. T James Hudson III
4. S Tyler Nubin
5. DL Rakeem Nuñez-Roches Sr.
6. WR Darius Slayton
7. OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux
Not only is that a long list, but it includes a lot of their remaining key players. If we thought our injuries were ridiculous that puts it in perspective. One has to have some sympathy for this team and Daboll as well.

So many puzzling personnel decisions over the years. Amari Rodgers -it took them 1 1/2 years to figure out he sucked and was costing us games. Kicker Anders Carlson, a below 70% kicker in college and they draft him and stick with him as he kept costing us games. Remember when we had two inept offensive lineman ( Royce Newman, Jake Hanson), while Zach Tom and Yosh Nijman sat on the bench? And don't get me started on paying Aaron Banks top 5 money for a top 40 guard, or deciding to over pay perpetually injured Nate Hobbs, who is strictly a slot guy, and decide to play him outside where he's always failed.

I have been reading and listening to Cheesehead TV for at least 10 years now but had not taken the time to sign up and participate in the commentary.
I must say this comment below from "NFLfan" within the November 15, 2025 "Cory's Corner: Play The Best Players" is one of the most insightful – and accurate - comments I have read regarding the propaganda/public relations plants that the “suits”/stuffed shirts (in this case Gutekunst) in the corporate world employ to create narratives that deflect criticism and save their jobs:

There are 3 very vocal posters who will have the fans believe that the only problem be-deviling the Packers is the evil MLF followed by Jordan Love.
I used to be an active participant in one of the Prince (musician) forums and it was 'infiltrated' by what is known in the PR industry as 'cleaners'. These types are hired by celebrites, teams, etc to steer the narrative and tackle posters whom they deem a threat. We have about 3 on this site right about now. They give-off tell-tale signs and if you have experienced them before, they are fairly easy to recognize.Their current 'narrative' is MLF is 100% responsible for ALL of Green Bay's ills. Jordan Love is their target #2. They are actively trying to isolate MLF by relentless criticisms while they protect Gutekunst. Please note that when Gutekunst is critiqued, they rush in with lengthy, term papers about how MLF is somehow responsible.
MLF deserves criticism but he is NOT responsible for all of GB's ills. I don't like the bullying, under-mining behavior by these 3.
Notice that when Gutekunst is mentioned, all 3 of them swoop in to 'remind' us that he is completely guilt-free and MLF is the only villain.
I have reported these concerns to Aaron Nagler several days ago-I have not received a response.
I used to deeply respect one of these posters and am chagrined he decided to play this unfortunate game.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The criticism of Jordan – and especially Gutekunst – is warranted and Gutkekunst and Jordan are tied together at the hip - from Gutekunst's drafting of Jordan we have known that if Jordan is to fail as a QB capable of being a quarterback that makes a good team a Super Bowl winning team, Gutekunst never sees a NFL general management job again. And we already know that it has been the Packers team/players lifting Jordan, not Jordan lifting the team/players as Rodgers and early Favre did.
Lafleur is not the problem and an excellent head coach.
Lafleur’s first games with Rodgers starting (including playoffs): 44 wins, 13 losses, 77.2% winning %
Lafleur’s first games with Jordan starting (including playoffs): 24 wins, 20 losses, 1 tie, 54.4% winning %
(and the Jacksonville win should be credited to Malik Willlis)
Lafleur’s first games with Malik Willis starting: 2-0
Expect an easy win today in New York today against the 2-8 Giants that will allow the Gutekunst’s paid propagandists to return to the Jordan Love for NFL MVP talk and their ever present diversions created to prevent proper analysis of Gutekunst both in terms of his:
1) Enhancement or destruction of team chemistry, team morale, team veteran leadership and experience (i.e. I see little value in being the “youngest team in the NFL”)
2) Talent evaluation
Win or lose today, the Packers problems – Gutekunst at GM and Love at QB – remain the Packers biggest problems.
And I think we all have a pretty good idea of who the 3 “vocal posters” that NFLfan writes of. For years now they have appeared within seconds or minutes of a post critical of Gutekunst to jump on/”bully” the “poster” that is critiquing “Gutey”

I’m happy to own it (assumed). Your arguments aren’t new or persuasive. I too expect an easy victory today, simply by doing what we have been against the team most susceptible to it in the league. Why? This roster is better than theirs and better than we have been performing. Of course it’s not perfect. It also won’t change anything or mean much against much of the rest of the league.
So welcome to voicing your thoughts for us. However, I’m not going to apologize or desist from stating my opinion clearly. The stats you cite have much to do with the rosters and the ultimate failing to convert much to do with coach decisions and play calling. Moreover, LaFleur was stymied by 2 high safeties with under Rodgers under center and still is. That is just the tip of the iceberg, of course.
Yes, LaFleur is the fulcrum of the problem as i see it and the symptoms keep revolving around him across seasons. He is the central pillar that must fall to change things, though others may be caught up in it. The idea that he’s an offensive genius is threadbare. Even Herman and Mosqueda are admitting it his offense is broken.
Welcome, but I for one am not apologizing or changing my view or candor. Happy for Aaron or Al to know that and any other would be censors parachuting in so righteously. Now that is one of the things wrong with the world.

What is interesting and notable to me is that you had an entirely different take last year. So, I knew something was up & It wasn't difficult for me to put 'two-and-two' together. I lived with these deceptive, interfering 'cleaning 'practices on the Prince forum for 6 years. They are easy to spot.
Many fans aren't aware that teams employ 'cleaners' to steer the narrative or try to harm the reputation of others.
(right now they are targeting MLF)
Make no mistake, I know there is a war going on @ 1065 Lombardi and there are some dirty players. And, those players hire 'cleaners' to manipulate and sway opinion on fan sites.
MLF, though he deserves criticism, is not the only problem.
Perhaps, learn to be more honest and objective.

Two thoughts Parilli......
I learned real quick not to give a flying F what other people think.
It has no effect on my life, or what i post.
I have enough confidence in my football acumen and even more so of the opinions i post that i just don't give a s....
I stand by everything i write.
But that's just me. 💯
As far as Love......my biggest critique is not of Love, but it's of MLF, concerning Love.
They need to take the training wheels off of Love.
Favre and Rodgers had full reign to do what they wanted.
I don't think Love has that luxury.
(Rodgers went 13-3 three seasons in a row and won two MVP's in his late 30's under MLF.)
If Love doesn't like something he see's on the field, if he see's a play that won't work after seeing the defense, or he has a play that will work.
Then change the play and execute it.
Let him loose!!
You pay a guy top QB money...let him earn it!!
Game managers are a dime a dozen.
Give him the chance to be a difference maker that you pay him to be.
Give him the chance to lead the team.
If Love fails, then he fails.
But take the training wheels off.

Also true - as are the residents and citizens of our country.
Propaganda/public relations/advertising/marketing (i.e. manipulation, lies, exaggeration, bullshit, hysteria, chaos, sensationalism, entertainment, etc.) is not reserved for just governments but corporations too - even football corporations (they = government and corporations - are all owned and controlled by the same few people).
Remember at the end of the day football is just a diversion and a distraction for the mases - "bread and circuses" as Juvenal called it or a counter revolutionary instrument per Herbert Marcuse.
That said, I love this diversion and escape from reality.

Lafleur is not the problem and an excellent head coach.
This shows the entire post is nonsensically biased. Nothing stated in the post can be taken seriously.
Gutekunst has been at fault for many things during his tenure. He has assembled a Super Bowl contender for 2025. Admittedly, it will only be for this season due to several factors he's responsible for.
LaFleur is responsible for the game plans, play calls, game management, in game adjustments and practice routine, I include practice because it's said that a team should practice as it plays. LaFleur blames himself for bad game plans, bad plays called and team discipline (penalties). Since this taking blame occurs weekly, how can he be anointed an "excellent coach"? Who can't settle on offensive linemen? who can't settle on a healthy kicker? who won't give Bisaccia the players to be successful on special teams? Who doesn't have the hard demeanor necessary to instill a tough nasty controlled aggression in his players? Who won't let Love play the position to assure success?
Your indictment of Love is just plain biased nonsense. Willis won two games, because of the opponent and game plan, since he was with the Packers for so short a time. I wanted, and still do, a competition of Willis and Love. That doesn't mean I think Love is a bad player. It doesn't mean I think he's elite and deserving of his contract. It means I believe, if LaFleur let's him play to his strengths, the Packers can get to the Super Bowl with him at quarterback this season. This season is the only one that this team will be able to contend.

The problem with this being a "get right" game for the Packers, is that it is the same for the Giants. Their interim coach is looking to make an impression, and has been in the conversation for HC vacancies in the league. This reminds me too much of the Cleveland and Carolina games, or even Cincy, where the Packers were heavily favored, but underperformed. And don't get me started with the Cowboys.
In short, the Giants are a team that seems to have a knack for doing enough to beat the Packers. This will be a nail biter, and if LaFleur doesn't allow the offense to get into an uptempo, unpredictable game plan, it could be another disappointment for the team and the fans.
The real question is whether MLF will remain stubborn, and run the ball even when it's apparent there is no chance of success. Or will he have more pre-snap movement, some play actions that will gain first downs on a regular basis and keep the defense guessing. Because at this point, the team's new brain trust will be looking closely at their team and making some decisions based not on the past, but on the present.

Win this game, go 6-3-1.
The people who seem to live to trash LaFleur (because that shows how astute they are) are hallucinating. The dude has 72 career wins in 6 1/2 years . The Great Shanahan only has 76 in 8 1/2 years. The Great McVay has 87 wins in 8 1/2 years. At his current pace, MLF will have nearly 90 wins in 8 seasons.. LaFleurs .665 win percentage is 14th all time and 3rd among active coaches.
And we should fire him and hand the reins over to a guy who has 9 games of NFL experience?
Packerlifer
November 16, 2025 at 10:27 am
I agree the "fire MLF" chants aren't offering any solution to what's going on with the Packers now. But the question to be answered in the NFL is not what have you done in the past but what are you doing now and for the foreseeable future.
Just 3 years ago Brian Daboll was NFC Coach of the Year. He took the Giants to the playoffs in his very first season and won at road playoff game against the NFC's #2 seed.
And "the great McVay" and "great Shanahan" have taken their teams to 4 Super Bowls over the same period that MLF has been in Green Bay.
LaFleur has built up a good reservoir of credit for his record and there shouldn't and won't be any knee jerk changing this season or probably next either. But if you live on credit you're running down the account and you need to push some fresh capital in to succeed and thrive.

Both Herman and Mosqueda have been publicly describing this offense as “broken” this week. That’s the O as a whole, not just, (though not denying the contributory role of) the OL. They are not alone locally or nationally. The myth is debunked. They are only describing what we have all seen, this season and previously going back to the end of Rodgers but now seemingly exacerbated. The excuses have just worn out.
If things don’t change dramatically (and with this opponent and in the expected conditions today might actually be the one exception to that) then if you see it as likely that LaFleur is extended, I think you are probably going to be disappointed.
Whether that’s the only departure remains to be seen, but since you have stated your belief in the quality of this roster often and consistently, I presume you don’t see Love or Gute as a problem either, and thus probably hope they remain. Love certainly will.
I expect a clear victory today simply because we are fielding a better roster against the one team in the league that the recent offense looks tailor made for. The high gusting wind expected only seems likely to emphasize that and make it more difficult for Winston to go deep as is his tendency.
A loss would be more stunning than any so far. They are without their breakout RB and most of their WR weapons and, while that’s similar to Cleveland, unlike Cleveland, they not only don’t have an elite D, they have the worst run defense in the league by a country mile. The one thing they do well in fact is get to the passer.
So yes, we should win and clearly, but it likely portends little for the rest of the season other than that, unless of course, we don’t. I think a loss is about as unlikely as can be in a parity league unless we trip over ourselves to an unprecedented extent that not even I can foresee.

It's a safe bet to say the Packers will win today. They are the better team, and the Giants are reeling.
The question for this fan is how well they play. Will they do just enough to win, manage to overcome their unforced errors, and be happy with a W? Or will they look like a playoff team with an offense that executes, establishes some rhythm, and finishes drives?

Today is a Jacobs' rushing day. As I sit by my window here in New Jersey, I hear the wind blowing in gusts. If Love can throw the short, quick passes it will avoid the wind carrying the ball into the Giants dbacks' hands. Get into the end zone because field goals will be difficult due to the wind. The receivers don't need to be fast, but quick.

It doesn’t play in Winston’s favor and Jacobs and Wilson are simply better and deeper than they can field at this point. This is not a game to hold onto the ball long with their rush. Burns in particular is excellent. The weather should reinforce that. This game probably isn’t where we see LaFleur show if he can break out offensively. We just need to play with discipline and not outfox ourselves,

Last week the Packers ran the ball 27 times and attempted to pass the ball 39 times (36 passing attempts + 3 sacks).
So Packers runs to total plays (27/66) were 40.9%.
Conversely Packers passing plays to total plays (39/66) were 59.1%.
For the 46 games since Jordan became starting quarterback - and also the Chiefs 2021 game that Jordan started (47 games total):
Packers record when the Packers run the ball at least 50% of the offensive plays: 16 wins and 3 losses
Packers record when the Packers pass the ball at least 50% of the offensive plays: 9 wins and 18 losses and 1 tie
Today's opponent's run defense is surrendering 5.5 yards per carry - which is 31st in the NFL - only the Bills have a worse run defense with a slightly higher 5.5 yards per carry.
The Giants know that their opponents know that the Giants run defense is terrible.
The Giants know that their opponents will thus run the ball against the Giants.
Despite this foreknowledge, the Giants have not been able to stop the opponents run.
Consequently I would expect that the Packers and Lafleur will run the ball more than 50% today.
Jacobs gains yards after contact; Jacobs is less good at evading contact.
Aaron Jones's vision and agility made him a better before contact runner - because Jones evaded the contact and found holes where other backs cannot - and though Aaron was also good after contact he was not as successful as Jacobs after contact.
Gutekunst could have had both Aaron Jones and Josh Jacobs, but Gutekunst allowed the Packers to lose Aaron Jones to the Vikings over 1 or 2 million dollars of guaranteed money. This was yet another example of Gutekunst destruction of the Packers both in terms of:
1) Enhancement or destruction of team chemistry, team morale, team veteran leadership and experience (i.e. I see little value in being the “youngest team in the NFL”)
2) Talent evaluation
Jones and Jacobs would have been perfect complementary running backs and would have made the Packers offense that much better and harder to defense.
Aaron Jones was a good friend of and supporter of Aaron Rodgers and spoke publicly in support of Aaron Rodger thus Gutekunst had to let Aaron Jones go at the first opportunity.
So today the Packers will run on the Giants, but the Packers could have been that much more deadly with both Jones and Jacobs.

We’d all have loved Jacobs and Jones. In reality that wasn’t going to happen for reasons of cap perhaps, but primarily because both want to be a number 1 runner and get significant snaps. I don’t buy the Rodgers conspiracy angle at all. We just went younger and more direct, which is the normal base style in this type of scheme and probably more durable too.
It’s certainly unfortunate to say the least that Lloyd hadn’t panned out thus far as an outside the tackles option. However, I think we all know who’d be getting the bulk of the carries regardless.

Packers are 17 wins and 6 losses and 1 tie when Jordan does not throw an interception.
Packers are 7 wins 14 losses and 0 ties when Jordan throws an interception.
Packers are 16 wins and 4 losses when Jordan neither throws an interception or loses a fumble (lost fumbles in 5 games so far in his career)
Packers are 8 wins 16 losses and 1 tie when Jordan either throws an interception or losses a fumble
Given the Giants 1) weaknesses and 2) circumstances (new head coach and injuries and drama regarding Tisch/Waltons/Sean Payton and Russell Wilson), the most probable reason for a Packers loss today will be Jordan turning the ball over.
Second most probable reason is another Packer turning the ball over.
Third most probable reason is Giants scoring on explosive plays - Giants have scored 10 times this year on offense from on a play from outside the red zone (i.e. on a play from the opponent's 20 yard line or beyond).
Packers have scored only 1 time this year on offense from outside the red zone.
Giants and Bills both have done this 10 times.
Only the Cardinals with 0 scores from the 20 yard line or beyond have less offensive touchdown scores from distance than the Packers.
Most teams offense 1 play TD scores from distance are by way of passes.
According to Next Gen Stats passing charts for Jordan Love:
(site would not allow me to insert link due to "anti spam" rules)
last week against the Eagles Jordan had the lowest percentage (54.5%) of "short passes" as a percentage of total passes that were targeted to a player that was either behind the line of scrimmage or less than 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage since week 2.
Also according to next gen stats passing charts last week against the Eagles, Jordan had the highest percentage (33.3%) of "intermediate passes" as a percentage of total passes that were targeted to a player that was at least 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage but less than 20 yards behind the line of scrimmage since week 1.
So Lafleur - contrary to the propaganda - certainly allowed Jordan to open up the game last week. Problem was Jordan is slow releasing the ball and poor at viewing the field.

The Green Packers and the New York Football Giants are locked up in a tight one in New Jersey. Whenever these two historic franchises square off, you can toss the record book out the window because it's going to be a dogfight. Today we've learned extra points can be pulled as well as shanked. Packers receivers are finding it challenging to catch the ball with their hands. Packers CBs are having difficulty catching the ball with their chests. The Giants obliviously picked up something on tape that suggested a QB sneak with the QB running backwards through the line would be unstoppable. Ball security is something we're going to need to get fixed. A lot of people are saying Dean Blandino doesn't pick up after himself in the Command Center.
We got 'em right where we want 'em.

Watson doesn’t catch as well when he’s running down field.
stockholder
November 16, 2025 at 03:50 pm
You are correct.
The defender shields his eyes and he drops it.
If he jumps or keeps his feet toward the QB.
He catches it.
So Wicks, Doubs, Musgrave, drop passes;
off their hands in traffic.
Williams catches over his shoulder.
Send him deep.
Until Golden becomes a better route runner.
Thegreatreynoldo

3rd and 2 so they throw a bomb to Watson. He was open but I would call that a drop. It was slightly underthrown, I suppose. GB just doesn't convert enough on those bombs.
A long drive helps. A long drive with points to push the lead to two scores helps a lot. Alas, no cigar. in a game of inches GB seems a couple of centimeters short too often.

I choose to mute the TV and roll with Wayne and Larry regardless of any delay. It's frustrating because Wayne is inaccurate often, but I enjoy Larry's perspectives, and his groans or cheers are a tell if the radio broadcast is "ahead" of the TV.

Yeah, I get that. Yet a lot of the good teams have struggled and the Chargers got annihilated. OTOH, Flacco came back down to earth. I dunno, but I don't think there really is a dominant team out there. The difference is the good team win close games, for the most part.
Just to waffle some more, GB certainly did not look like a good team, precisely.
