Packers vs Bears: Gameday Preview - 2025 Week 14
The great rivalry renews for the division lead
By GregMeinholz

It's the last of a three-divisional game stretch, and this one may be the biggest of the three. The Green Bay Packers are hosting the Chicago Bears today at Lambeau Field with kickoff slated for 3:25 PM CST. The 8-3-1 Packers are coming off their 31-24 victory over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, showing a bit of a return to form of the team we saw early in the season. The 9-3 Bears are floating high on cloud nine right now after their 24-15 Black Friday victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, perhaps cementing the question of whether or not they are "for real." The stakes are high today with the top spot in the division on the line.
The last time these two teams met was January 5th of this year, where Chicago pulled off a 24-22 victory in the final seconds. And Bears fans haven't let us forget that despite not having defeated the Packers since 2018, they're "undefeated vs Green Bay in 2025." After losing Christian Watson to a season-ending ACL injury and having Jordan Love get a little banged up, let's be honest, the Packers kind of mailed it in with their ticket to the playoffs already stamped. Malik Willis entered the game more than halfway through, completing 10/13 passes for 136 yards compared to Jordan Love's 7/12 for 69. Granted, every game in the great rivalry counts, but the Packers seemed to pack it up in this game, having nothing to gain, while the Bears were playing for pride, and that's exactly what they got. I'm sure many players and fans alike are hoping for a little revenge today.
Last game, the Packers completed a season sweep of the Lions. Something they surprisingly have not achieved since 2020. Jordan Love had a great game, completing 18/30 for 234 yards and four touchdowns, with Micah Parsons leading the way on defense with 2.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, and four QB hits. Last week, I talked about the Packers needing to contain Detroit's running game and put up points on offense to force the Lions to play catch-up, allowing the Packers' pass rush to take over, and that's exactly what they did, limiting Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery to only 90 yards between the two. The Packers will need to do something similar today to stop Chicago.
We've got a bit of pride, and the division lead on the line today, let's get into what we can expect to see.
What to See on Offense
After a four-game streak with only two touchdown passes total, Jordan Love unloaded on the Detroit Lions for 234 yards and four touchdowns en route to being voted the NFC offensive player of the week. Was it a matter of Matt LaFleur finally unhooking the leash on his quarterback? Is the Jordan Love Toyotathon really on? We'll have to find out over the next few weeks.
Today, Love faces a Chicago defense that ranks 22nd with an average of 225.2 passing yards allowed per game. But while the Bears may give up yards through the air, there's one thing they are good at in the secondary, and that's taking the ball away. Led by safety Kevin Byard with six and cornerback Nahshon Wright with five, the Bears have 17 interceptions this season. Jordan Love has been the stingiest he's ever been in his career, with only three interceptions thrown this season, so this may not be a big deal, but Chicago will be ready to change that, and Love needs to ensure he doesn't go back on how well he's done in that category this year.
Jayden Reed has been activated from injured reserve. He is questionable today, but the word is that he will be active for the first time since week 2 today. If Reed is available, he can provide the Love with a YAC target he's been lacking since Tucker Kraft suffered his season-ending ACL injury five weeks ago. Matthew Golden is questionable but is closer to returning as well, and with all the other capable options at receiver, this could be another big game for Jordan Love.
The Bears are hovering towards the bottom of the league in sacking the QB, with only 23 sacks so far. The only real pass rush threat for Chicago is Montez Sweat with 7.5 sacks so far. As of late, the Packers' offensive line has done an excellent job of keeping Jordan Love on his feet, and I'd expect more of that today.
On to the running game. Josh Jacobs averaged 4.9 yards per carry last week with a 19-carry, 83-yard game. Chicago's defense has struggled against the run this year, ranking 27th against the run, allowing 133.8 rushing yards per game. It's worth noting, however, that the Bears' defense did shut down Saquon Barkley last week, only allowing 56 yards. However, this was only on 13 carries due to Philadelphia playing catch-up for most of the game; he still averaged 4.3 yards per carry with a long of 15 yards.
Everyone has been talking about the Bears' rushing attack this week, and I'll get into that in a little bit, but what the Packers need most today is for their offense to be dominant and not turn the ball over. I believe they have the chance to do that today. If that happens, it will erase any Bears' rushing attack as they then have to play catch-up.

What to See on Defense
Please make no mistake about it, the Bears are different this year. In his rookie season, Caleb Williams struggled, but this year he's lined up with about what you can expect from a second-year first-round QB on the rise. Chicago does have an improved offensive line, which has kept Williams upright, allowing only 19 sacks on Williams this season. For reference, Jordan Love is just below him with 17 sacks against. Part of this is due to Williams' ability to escape the rush. Williams has also improved in the interceptions column, only throwing five so far this season.
Chicago's receivers are led by Rome Odunze with 44 catches for 661 yards and six touchdowns, followed by DJ Moore with 38 for 502 and three touchdowns. However, Rome Odunze will not be playing today as he is out with a foot injury. Luther Burden III provides Chicago with big-play ability, and the Packers will need to have a strong game from their secondary to keep this one in check. Last week, the Packers were inconsistent, allowing Jameson Williams to have a huge game with 7 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown. They allowed too many big plays from Williams, which they'll need to limit today, as the Bears' offense can struggle a little bit with consistency in the passing game, but can make you pay with those random big plays out of nowhere.
The Bears also have the tight end duo of Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet. Loveland had a slow start to the season, but as the season went on, he's found more consistency in reeling in around four targets per game.
Today, to prevent Chicago's offense from finding a rhythm throwing the ball, the Packers' secondary will need to tighten up and play a better game than they did against Detroit. They will need their pass rushers to help out as well. Micah Parsons was brilliant last week against Detroit, collecting 2.5 sacks and wreaking all kinds of havoc for Jared Goff. Caleb Williams is more mobile than Goff, so the Packers will need to keep Williams in the pocket to allow Parsons & company the opportunity to be game-wreckers.
And now the running game. The Packers, unfortunately, lost Devonte Wyatt for the season on Thanksgiving and need to fill the gap he leaves against the running game. Running backs D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai have combined to be a very formidable duo, with 1,365 yards between the two, with 255 of those yards coming against the Eagles' defense last week. Ben Johnson built a bully in Detroit through the ground game, and that is absolutely what he is building in Chicago now as well.
This might be the main source of worry for the Packers today. Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden will be counted on the most to fill in for Devonte Wyatt, but Warren Brinson and Nazir Stackhouse will be called on to assist as well. The Packers rank towards the middle of the pack against the run, but that is going to be tested today in droves. The best thing for the Packers' defense today may be for the offense to score early and often, forcing the game into Caleb Williams' hands and right into the capable arms of the Packers' pass rush.
Extra Notes
Kicking hasn't been a concern for a few weeks (proceeds to knock on wood) as Brandon McManus has been perfect since returning to the lineup. Bears kicker Cairo Santos has had some struggles this season, but he seems to have righted the ship as well, being perfect in the last two games.
Daniel Whelan continues his bid for an All-Pro nod at punter, still ranking second in the league at the position, while Bears' punter Tory Taylor is ranked about in the middle of the pack.
Kick return is where the Packers are going to need to step up on Special Teams. Devin Duvernay has been dangerous as of late for Chicago, which begs the question of how the Packers will handle kickoffs. Last week, McManus put most of his kickoffs in the endzone, resulting in a touchback and giving the Lions good field position at the 35. It used to be that a touchback would completely cancel out an explosive returner, but now, if you do that, you give the offense only 65 yards to pay dirt. The Packers will need to be disciplined on Special Teams today to make sure this game is settled between the offense and defense and no surprises elsewhere.
I keep waiting for a spark from the Packers' return game, but it just never seems to come. I'd like to hold out a little hope that we may see a spark eventually, but I'm not really counting on it today.
In the End
It's been a long week of back and forth between fans and even a few jabs taken by players. This might be the biggest Packers/Bears game played in a while. It's for the division lead and perhaps a shot at the #1 seed if other games go the Packers' way. Last year, the Bears, in my opinion, got a bit of a cheap win in Green Bay and have not stopped talking about it. It's time for the Packers to get their revenge.
Next week, the Packers will be heading to Denver for another big game. Hopefully, we'll be heading into it high off a big divisional win and holding a lead on the NFC North.

Last week Lafleur called 30 runs and 30 passes.
Put these numbers below in perspective.
Since Jordan Love became the Packers starting quarterback at the start of the 2023-24 season, the Packers have played 48 games. In addition to this Jordan started one game in 2021.
In those 49 games, the Packers dropped back to pass more than they ran the ball in 28 of those 49 games - that means the Packers passed more than they ran in JUST 57% of those games that Jordan has started.
By comparison - just picking 2 random years:
In the 2019-2020 season (the first under Lafleur) the Packers dropped back to pass more than they ran the ball in 17 of their 18 games. - that is 94.4%!!
In the 2011-2012 season (under McCarthy) the Packers dropped back to pass more than they ran the ball in 16 of 17 games - that is 94.1%!!
SO WHY WOULD THE PACKERS COACHES - BOTH MCCARTHY AND LAFLEUR - CHOOSE TO PASS SO MUCH MORE WITH RODGERS AND SO MUCH LESS WITH JORDAN?
HERE ARE THE FACTS - and thus the reason:
The Packers record in those 28 games - with Jordan at starter - where the Packers dropped back to pass more than the Packers ran the ball the Packers record is 9 wins, 18 losses and 1 tie (includes the game that Jordan started in 2021 vs. Chiefs) - that is a winning percentage of just 33.9%.
The Packers record in those 33 games - with Rodgers at starter - where the Packers dropped back to pass more than the Packers ran the ball the Packers record was 27 wins and 6 losses - that is a winning percentage of 81%.
And mind you that Rodgers in that 2011-2012 year had a 18th ranked defense in terms of fewest points allowed, but in each of Jordan 3 years as starter the Packers have gifted Jordan with a top 10 defense in terms of fewest points allowed. Rodgers carried the Packers - and McCarthy, Murphy and Thompson - in many of those years and carried Gutekunst as well.
But the Packers record since Jordan became the Packers starting QB is now:18 wins 3 losses when the Packers run the ball more than the Packers drop back to pass.
Given these FACTS, Is there any wonder why Matt Lafleur takes the ball out of Jordan's hands and chooses to run?

"There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics."
I wonder how often LaFleur or McCarthy called for running plays and Rodgers changed the play to a pass. Would certainly change the interpretation of the above quoted stats.

Whether Rodgers was changing the play or not changing the play, don't miss the elephant in the room:

Babe... Love was having some trouble securing the ball and making some pretty game changing panic throws. I don't have statistics on this, but it might have cost packers some games and at the very least momentum in those games, So yes they should have run the ball more. Having said that Loves has calmed down secured the ball better, and earned more trust of the coaching staff. IMHO

I hope you are right - I am just not convinced on Jordan - nice kid, but he was way over drafted - I watched him in college games and he hasn't changed.
Matt Lafleur obviously knows he is dealing with an unstable emotionally up and down quarterback in Jordan Love.
This is evident in Matt Lafleur's interviews.
Notice the very interesting CONTRAST between the way Matt Lafleur speaks of Jordan Love and the way Matt Lafleur speaks of Malik Willis in interviews that are posted on the Packers team website.
Matt Lafleur on Jordan Love #1:
Interviewer: "What's the next step for Love's evolution you think?"
Matt Lafleur:
"I think he has done an outstanding job this year and I know that we have hit a rough spell in regards to scoring these last two weeks, but I think he's done an outstanding job and I got to - WE GOT TO MAKE SURE HE STAYS CONFIDENT. I think that is paramount for every player and I think he is confident and we're just, we're looking for the opportunity again to have a great week of practice, putting that prep in and then we ultimately got to go do it on game day."
Matt Lafleur on Malik Willis #1:
Matt Lafleur:
Interviewer (Packers Hall of Fame Center Larry McCarren):
"How did you like the way Malik Willis handled that situation - he hadn't thrown a pass all year?"
Matt Lafleur:
"HE'S BRILLIANT. I can't say enough great things about Malik Willis. We don't win that game without his ability to go in there and lead us on a touchdown drive."
Matt Lafleur on Malik Willis #2:
Interviewer:
"Matt what did you think of just how Malik came in?"
Matt Lafleur:
"Oh that was huge. We don't win that game without Malik and I can't say enough great things about Malik Willis. He's a great competitor. HE IS SO CALM. I mean he was in there on some critical situations. We had some third downs, we called a zone read and he uses his legs which, it was kinda, you know when your starting quarterback is out and then you have your back up in there and you call a zone read, you're a little bit concerned about that in that moment just because you can't have anything happen to him, so a but you know he made a lot of plays in the game and OBVIOUSLY WE DON'T WIN THAT GAME WITHOUT HIM"
Interviewer:
"What are your thoughts about every once in a while taking your quarterback off the field and having a package of plays for Willis to come in?"
Matt Lafleur:
"It is certainly up for discussion. I mean it is just hard to want to take your quarterback off the field so I know there was some game plans last year where we had a 2 QB package and who knows, maybe we will see that come back."
Interviewer:
Do you feel like that kinda gave you a jolt, just a change of pace and something that the defense isn't ready for necessarily?
Matt Lafleur:
"I think, but we've played enough football with Malik Willis where you know we feel like we can run our whole offense. Like I didn't feel we had to deviate at all from the game plan, matter of fact that exact play we had in for Jordan, so it is not like we deviated from the plan at all."
Lafleur thinks Malik Willis is "BRILLIANT" and "CALM".
Lafleur thinks Jordan Love is a ROLLER COASTER OF EMOTIONS AND LACKING IN CONFIDENCE- and for good reason, Jordan has been way over his head since the day he was drafted - Jordan should have been a 4th or 5th round draft pick and is destined to be a journeyman backup.
You can find these interviews on the Packers website. Cheesehead TV apparently does not allow commenters to post links in their comments or I would have posted the links.

Holy Research Babe, good job, Yes I have questioned Loves confidence level in the past ( he is replacing two hall of fame QBs ) no easy task. But Love is playing great and if he plays with confidence like he has and doesn't press Packers will be fine.

Thanks I hope so, but just not convinced yet.
We shall see what Lafleur thinks, by how many runs he calls relative to passes today and for the rest of the season.
These DATA POINTS are very telling and the other years with Rodgers at QB and Love at QB are not much different. The Professionals - Lafleur and McCarthy - know who Jordan is and know who Rodgers is.
In those 49 games since Love became the starter and the 1 Chiefs game in 2021, the Packers dropped back to pass more than they ran the ball in 28 of those 49 games - that means the Packers passed more than they ran in JUST 57% of those games that Jordan has started.
By comparison - just picking 2 random years (the other years for Rodgers are comparable to the numbers below and the other years for Jordan are comparable to the data above):
In the 2019-2020 season (the first under Lafleur) the Packers dropped back to pass more than they ran the ball in 17 of their 18 games. - that is 94.4%!!
In the 2011-2012 season (under McCarthy) the Packers dropped back to pass more than they ran the ball in 16 of 17 games - that is 94.1%!!
There is a reason that Lafleur chose to pass the majority of the time with Rodgers and chooses to run the majority of time with Jordan.
AND I DON'T CARE AS LONG AS THE PACKERS WIN!!!!
Go Pack Go!!

As we type, Love is the 5th highest rated passer in the NFL...3rd in Adj QB Rating. His production has been excellent as the 3rd year starter. Come to think of it, Rodgers was also outstanding during his 3rd year, at about the same age as Love.
LaFleur has always been an "establish the run" coach. Why did the running wane as the LaFleur/Rodgers games added up? Rodgers had more control over the O as the decade long MVP starter. I don't know why this surprises anyone. Productive experience at QB is a good thing.
I am certain LaFleur knows he has developed a very good NFL QB in Jordan Love...leadership and production is very good.

Lafleur fortunately is very aware of Jordan's history - NO AMNESIA for Lafleur. Packers fans are thankful for that.
Lafleur knows Jordan was all of College Football's, both FBS and FCS, leader in interceptions his 3rd and final year of college.
Lafleur knows that JUST LAST YEAR, 2024-25 - at a time when pass interceptions per pass attempt are at historically low levels - Jordan had the longest consecutive streak of games throwing an interception by a Packers quarterback within a single season since 1944 (80 years)
Love became the first Packers player since Irv Comp (a Packers Hall of Famer with 34 career defensive interceptions) in 1944 to throw at least one interception in each of his first eight games of a season last year, 2024-25. Love became the first player on any NFL team to do this since Case Keenum during his lone season with the Broncos in 2018.
And just two years ago, Love threw 11 interceptions - AND 10 OF THEM came in his first nine games.
And of course Jordan just choked and melted down mentally with BONEHEADED plays against the 49ers and Eagles in the playoffs - Jordan's passer rating in the Eagles game was the lowest ever for a Packers quarterback with 20 or more pass attempts.
But Lafleur doesn't have to go back that far - this year Jordan's fumbles and interceptions brought about the 3 losses and the 1 tie this year. It would be ok if the fumbles and interceptions weren't BONEHEADED, but they are.
There are times when Jordan Love is Dr. Jekyll but more often Jordan is Dr. Hyde.
I will grant you this, If Lafleur can keep Jordan calm and under control like Jordan seemed to be on Thanksgiving and continues to emphasize the run and short passes and side line passes, Packers can win the Super Bowl with the supporting cast they have.
Let's hope that is the case today against the Bears.

Back in college, Love was nowhere near the player he is now. If you want to evaluate College Love as a QB, just look at his sophomore year for some impressive stats. His junior year, he lost all his receiving weapons and most of the offensive line, forcing him to try and play Superman. Bringing that up to support an opinion shows a lack of understanding of his development. He’s so much better since college, and whatever he did back then isn’t relevant now. As others have mentioned, LaFleur loves to run the ball, and with Rodgers—who had many more years of development and is likely a first-ballot Hall of Famer—he had the freedom to run the offense his way. Love isn’t a Hall of Fame QB yet, but he certainly has the potential to get there. Time will tell, but most teams in the NFL would love to have him over their current starting quarterback.

Facts are Facts.
And there are plenty of other data points that tell the SAME REALITY.
Here is another:
Coming into the game last week against the Lions these were Jordan's stats with Watson:
74 passes completed out of 131 targets for a 56.4% completion rate and 1,360 yards, 9 touchdown passes, 8 interceptions, passer rating 89.8
By contrast, Aaron Rodgers throwing to Christian Watson:
38 passes completed out of 62 targets for a 61.2% completion rate and 508 yards, 6 touchdown passes, 1 interception, passer rating 112.8
6 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio for Rodgers to Watson in his rookie year.
1 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio for Jordan to Watson over 3 years now.
Jordan's game is very limited - and those limitations will show up again - but maybe the Packers can overcome Gutekuns't folly and Jordan's limitations and win with Jordan like the Ravens won with Trent Dilfer, though the Packers defense though good is not that good.
Just win baby!!

Look, Rodgers and Love have remarkably similar records at the same stage in their career. You are comparing Rodgers 15 years in as a starter: apples to oranges even starting out. Love is one of the better rated QBs in the league by any metric from any source. Take a deep breath and watch what is happening and not sepia tinge what once did (and ultimately didn’t secure the ultimate prize anyway).
BabeParilli

The early year stats show the same. For instance I provided 2011-12 season below as just one example.
The ONLY THING that is keeping Jordan's numbers respectable is Lafleur having taken the ball out of Jordan's hands and gone to the run and the fact that Jordan has had a top 10 defense - in points allowed - all 3 years as a starter - Rodgers had a top 10 defense just 3 times in his 15 years as a Packers starter. Rodgers carried Thompson, Murphy and Gute, Lafleur is carrying Jordan and Gute as a result.
In those 49 games since Jordan became the starter (and 1 Chief game where in 2021 where Jordan played with Rodgers out for Covid), the Packers dropped back to pass more than they ran the ball in 28 of those 49 games - that means the Packers passed more than they ran in JUST 57% of those games that Jordan has started.
By comparison - just picking 2 random years:
In the 2019-2020 season (the first under Lafleur) the Packers dropped back to pass more than they ran the ball in 17 of their 18 games. - that is 94.4%!!

I am highly confident Rodgers was regularly ignoring called run plays.
That's the exact reason why year in and year out McCarthy used to respond to media questions about improving the Packers rushing offense with the same response, almost verbatim, which was, "Well, frankly, my belief is that the most important statistic when it comes to running the ball is attempts, and we need to improve in that area."
Week in, week out, Mike said the same damn thing to reporters. Now let me ask you, why on god's green earth would a man who is the play caller keep on telling the media they have to call more running plays, and then week after week, the Packers weren't executing more running plays?
Answer: MM was calling more running plays, his QB was wholesale checking out of them, and Mike was letting the press know what was going on without actually hanging his QB out to dry.

Hated to see Malk Heath released - just one of those hard working, marginal players that you root for. He wasn't contributing much to the success of the team so realistically this day was going to happen at some point, but I am sad to see him go.

He was in the dog house a few weeks ago and LaFleur wouldn't speak much about it except to state he was a "healthy scratch" for unknown reasons.
Always liked Heath's play. Good hands and blocking.

I think Malik Heath was the most overrated player on the team. I like him fine as a #5 WR, but he never looked like anything more than that. It would be good to get him back on the practice squad in case there are more injuries.
Andy Herman said Heath is probably done in Green Bay, though, and will want to go to another team, where there isn't so much depth at WR. Plus Heath was a healthy scratch a couple weeks ago for some kind of disciplinary problem. Andy also said Heath was having a poor year even as a blocker. I don't watch the WR blocking closely enough to have my own opinion, but Andy does.

Your copy-paste diatribe against Love- that you post repeatedly- makes me certain that 1) you don't know what good QB play looks like, and 2) Jordan Love might have banged your wife or daughter.

Winning the first meeting is big it takes the pressure off a bit for the quick turnaround and kicking da bears ass on the frozen tundra is extra special.Good to have Reed back with the loss of Kraft he should be a big help.

We'll get to see newly acquired DL player Bohanna, as well, if he has passed his physical. Along with Brinson, Stackhouse, Wooden and Brooks we should have a good rotation of players on the DL, while missing Wyatt. Hopefully Hafley and the DL coach have something ready to go, to compensate for Wyatt being out. GO PACK, GO!!!

Reed being active is great to read!
The team would not activate him if he was not going to play. More stress on a below average bare defense.
Wayne Larrivee was bold on Packers Live this week: "If the Packers do not turn the ball over they will win the game!"

"The team would not activate him if he was not going to play." Uh, not necessarily. Reed was at the end of his 21-day window, so I believe the Packers HAD to activate him whether they play him today or not.

The keys to the day are not being scared to attack Chicago thorough the air on offense. That doesn’t mean not running it, but not doing so with the pass as a second thought.
On D, keep Williams in the pocket and stop them grinding long drives on the ground. They need to win the time of possession and they don’t get consistent yards if it’s not coming from the run or scramble. Williams is much more dangerous outside the box through the air as well as with his feet.

The key to the day is get 10+ points up on Chicago early by any means necessary, and then run clock control offense and don't turn over the ball.

"If Reed is available, he can provide the Love with a YAC target he's been lacking since Tucker Kraft suffered his season-ending ACL injury five weeks ago."
IMO getting Reed back for that very reason can be big. Maybe not so much today since it's his first game back, but as Reed gets up to speed he could could be HUGE for this offense.
"Matthew Golden is questionable but is closer to returning as well, and with all the other capable options at receiver, this could be another big game for Jordan Love."
I'd like to see more of an effort to get Golden more touches. Nothing but good could come from it IMO.

Even without Reed we’ve struggled to get Golden open in space. With his speed, I can’t understand that. Surely that should be one of the simpler tasks for an OC?

Couple of tangible thoughts on today’s game. !st off, the YAC is back with Reed. We have missed that since Kraft went down. And, bringing in 700lbs of DL bodies to stop the inside run is very relevant to playing the Bears twice in the next three games. Smart move by Gutey. Stop the run and we will see a blow out at Lambeau today! Go Pack Go.

muff7777 is it a quality 700lbs or just 700 lbs , I want to see Wooden continue to play well and Brinson is really developing, Brooks and Stackhouse need to do there part to, If the new guys can provide its a bonus.

Really you only have stack house who plays the one tech and he’s inexperienced while these two guys are experienced. Hopefully it will help.

I'm expecting new DT Jordon Riley to see some action today. He's #97. I'm assuming they got him so he can play. He could bring a little fire to the DT group by adding competition.

I've read through this a couple of times now. I think that it's easy to get lost in the Weeds of Statistics, and forget that it's points and wins. You can make a statistical case for just about anything.
BUT....I think the central point is legit. We win more when we throw less. Waaay back in 2019, LaFleur's first year, we made it to the Championship game, where we lost to the definition of a mediocre QB who threw 8 passes, completing 6. Six completions, and scored 37 points. And it was like a burning bush was saying to me, "Run More, Pass Less.""
Love's first season as starter, we threw 580 times. And last year, we were throwing it quite a bit, and turning it over, too. After a horrible pick against Detroit, the Packers had a bye week, which is when they traditionally do their self-scout. I'm suspecting they said "We need to put Love in a good position, and we need to NOT put Love in a bad position", and then they adjusted .
Voila. We started throwing less, he stopped throwing it away, and we finished the season with 479 passes. We won 11 games and made the playoffs. That's 100 fewer passes than the previous season. Not an accident, IMO. This year, we're on pace to throw about 510 passes, which would be a slight increase from last year but still at a lower pace than before the change.
The Seahawks and Eagles have both thrown fewer passes than us, and it isn't because they don't have a QB or guys who can catch it. It's a choice to keep it on the ground as much as you can. Obviously, when defenses start crowding the box too much, and disrespect your ability to throw it over them, then you have to do that.
I'd like to see us run it 50 times today. We probably won't be that lucky. We'll have to hurt these guys in the air, but as we discussed here, the key to this game is not turning it over on offense.

Man, you people just don't get it.
Running doesn't increase win percentage. Playing from a lead increases run percentage.
