NFL SCOUTING REPORTS:
NFL Draft Profile- NFL.com
"Belton is an enormous tackle with good power and long arms. He can bulldoze the roads clean for running backs but needs to play with better hand placement to sustain his early lead. Belton has the length to shove rushers up and around the pocket but his punch timing is inconsistent and he lacks the body control to consistently respond to inside counters. If a team can steady his feet and improve his hand placement, he could become a solid starter at right tackle, but he will need some help from time to time." - NFL.com
"Has 51 pancake blocks to his credit. Squares up and gathers on run blocks and can drive a defender to the ground. Flashes finish with tools for more consistency. Good footwork and strong hands. Sinks his hips and anchors up strongly against the bull rush. Pass blocks with his hips low and uses his long arms to create extension. This allows him to lock out edge rushers... Needs some “finishing” on hand placement in run blocking. Will give up the edge from time to time... Pretty sound technician for a big man. Had an excellent Senior Bowl. His size will be a major plus. A prospect at the next level as a right tackle. Could be a solid second day pick." - Ourlads
CAREER NOTES:
Played four seasons at NC State from 2021-2024; in 2023 was 3rd team All-ACC, starting 13 games at left tackle. Started 11 games at left tackle for the Wolf Pack in 2024. Belton was credited with 51 pancake blocks over his last three seasons at NC State.
FIT WITH THE PACKERS:
From the CHTV Draft Guide:
Belton started at left tackle for two and a half seasons at North Carolina State. Belton flashes above-average feet and surprising overall quickness for a long and wide-framed player his teammates nicknamed “Escalade.” Belton is a right tackle mauler-type yet gets off quickly at the snap with good burst and straight-line agility. He excelled in NC State’s inside zone scheme, showing surprising mobility for his size. Belton is the proverbial large block of clay that you hope to mold into something special, but is he the Packers’ type of clay? He also had a problem with penalties, drawing 24 flags during his time at NC State.
COMMENTARY:
Belton is an enormous tackle with long arms. At 6-6, 336 pounds, Belton will be the heaviest player on the Packers' roster, more than 10 pounds bigger than Aaron Banks and Rasheed Walker. He plays with a tremendous anchor and moves very well for a lineman his size. He is a bit bigger than the typical offensive linemen the Packers tend to draft early in the draft. Belton is more of a power-style playing offensive lineman. He could excel as a run blocker in Green Bay's gap run block scheme. He played at over 340 pounds and weighed at 336 at the combine. Belton joins a competitive offensive line group where he likely competes with last year’s first round pick Jordan Morgan as the team’s top backup tackle or guard. He provides the Packers with a second, young offensive tackle as insurance for both Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker, who will be free agents after the 2025 season. The Packers brought Belton in for a top-30 visit earlier this month and he played at the Senior Bowl in January.

Well—OK. I sure we would take the players I want. That’s why we can’t have anything nice.
Go Packers!!!

A bit of a reach here, as many saw Belton as a late third-rounder. He is also an older prospect.
But he is a mauler, and as much as we have struggled in short-yardage situations on the ground, he should be able to help with that once he's in there. So the infusion of power on the OL is welcome.
The history of penalties is concerning, so that will have to be worked on.
I was really hoping for an edge or DL, but the best ones were already snapped up long before our pick. So we'll probably be banking on finding a gem; that is unless Gute feels our DL and pass rush just needs to be coached up. Hmmm....

I agree I wanted defense as well Splitpea….That said, with the 3rd round pick of Savion Williams, it’s very obvious this team is looking to be a run centric, very physical team. This offense is going to be very, very, very hard to stop for any defense. Lions better be ready because we are coming to not just bite your kneecap but take them off!!!! GPG

LOVE protecting our QB Love! LOVE the competition with the OL. LOVE putting in road graders to help our RBs. LOVE the vision of making a dominant OL. Now we need to show some LOVE for the DL.

Yes, and even though it’s a big reach, it doesn’t matter if he ends up being a really good player. They obviously LOVED him and shows what type of game they want to play on offense……SMASH mouth. He needs to clean up his penalties as he likes to grab the outside shoulder.

If he ends up being a really good player, it’s not a reach!

So, consider this - Gute said they want to get bigger on the O-line. They certainly did and have been lately. Throw out your old OL size requirements. More importantly, 3 guys contracts up next year. Tom, Walker, Rhyan. My guess is they only keep Tom. Jenkins 2026 cap hit is ~25 million. He's going to be released, sad to say. That's 3 starting or semi starting (Rhyan) gone in next year. That's nothing to sneeze at. They are right to prioritize. So, who is Center - Tom (next year). Belton goes to RT.

Similar to a post I just made, although I think they could retain Jenkins if he's willing to extend and restructure.

I hear ya. Me too, but a restructure from ~25 Mil. I don't know. He also hasn't been the same since injury. Maybe another year will tell. He was pro-bowl at top of game.

It’s possible we will have $0 in dead money next year depending on how Jaire is handled. We dug out of the Rodgers era mortgage and will be able to pay more players actually on the roster. Based on where the cap goes, we may now have enough money to retain Jenkins and extend Tom for 2026. Walker and Rhyan will expire and the Pack will let them go for compensatory picks. Those losses were just de-risked by drafting the Escalade plus the return of a healthy Morgan. We could be heading into a golden age of Packers OL play.

He's a road grader. For a team with Jacobs and a nice array of back up RBs, he makes sense.
The Packer were one of the top run offenses in the NFL last year. It seems clear the O will continue to run to open up the pass game.
I see him as Rhyan's competitor at RG.

I see him projecting best to G too. Maybe a RT if they think Tom might eventually move to LT, but does his great length overcome his lack of foot speed? He is certainly big and strong. Gute appears to be remaking the OL in a new image for the Jacobs era.

Perhaps Gutekunst is fed up with seeing his team lose with their best linemen out injured and inadequate replacements on the field.
Fix The Offense , no matter what. As Metallica says, nothing else matters.
Score points, nothing else matters.
This moves us closer to having the best OL unit in the league. We should all want that.

Nothing Else Matters. Great love song. Do yourself a favor. Go to YouTube and find Miley Cyrus (yes, Miley Cyrus) singing it with Metallica on the Howard Stern Show.

Leotis, I just watched this. I can't say I enjoyed it as much as you did- I guess I'm a traditionalist.
However, she's really channeling her inner Stevie Nicks in this vocal performance. Kinda uncanny.

"Perhaps Gutekunst is fed up with seeing his team lose with their best linemen out injured and inadequate replacements on the field."
Beat up OLs have plagued this team in the playoffs in the LaF/Gutey era.
I think the OL is better off now than it was In February.
The offense needed an influx of talent and it's getting that.

The OL now has four players who were drafted in the first two rounds, plus a third round pick (Rhyan) and two lower picks (Tom and Walker) who are playing way better than their draft positions suggest they should. So they now have seven starting-caliber O-linemen. That's how many they needed last year, and they only had six. It's also interesting that the last two they've acquired (Banks and Belton) are the biggest. This is a strong statement.

it's the kind of pick that could free up Tom to move to Left Tackle. It's the kind of pick that indicates that we don't have the money to sign both Tom and Walker. I hope Sean Rhyan is working on snapping the football, because Jenkins could get cut.

I think that if they were projecting Jenkins to be on the outs, they wouldn't have made him the primary C at this point...I think they would've kicked him over to RG and either worked on Rhyan to snap or gone fishing for a true C in this draft.
If they pick a true C today--and the better ones in this draft are still on the board--that would be telling.

I like Belton...in round 3. This felt early for me, although there are several draftniks who had him as either the next, or within a player or two, OT on the board when the Packers picked him. I love power football, and the Packers have rapidly shifted away from the Aaron Jones type of offense to RBs who are going to be their own blockers. Belton works that way, but I agree with others who say that maybe his path to snaps might be inside at first.
He's a Packer-type OL pick: a LT with a significant amount of play experience who could project to several spots on the line. If there are no changes up front, he almost immediately plugs in as the top candidate to be the swing OT which was a huge need. The OL, it is a-changing, and with contracts coming up, they need to cultivate players for the 2026 OL.

Belton was third rd.
On just about every board I saw.
They did bring him in.
His arms are almost 34 inches.
And he will back-up Tom.
Because Walker is the LT.
And I bet they re-sign him.

I am not going to second guess Gute. I think one of his goals is to make a good offensive line a dominant OL.
And, a good offense a great dominating offense. Love now will have all the tools he needs.
I think Gute was honest when he said our defensive line was really good just needed to play better.
Also, I thought they would have addressed the CB position with the third pic so the WR receiver was an eye opener to say the least. Clearly they are going by their board which generally in the long run is perhaps the best strategy.
Today we enter the final rounds so we can better asses the draft at the end. Not taking a CB early suggests maybe they are planning to have a friendly conversation with Jaire? Maye some serious negotiations?
I know of a number of people that will really be happy with this draft. Namely, Jordon love. GPG

This draft is showing us that what we perceived as “Packers type” draft prospects is changing, or maybe expanding. In Benton’s case, he’s still got the jumps (30”vert, 8’11” broad jump) but his size is a little bit big and his age is definitely older. And he’s a run blocker first instead of a pass protector. That’s cool, they’ll still have amazing potential to throw the ball all over the field. It’s going to be interesting to see where the pieces fit when they get the best 5 on the field. A lot depends on whether or not Jordan Morgan can become a viable left tackle (as a 1st round tackle should be) and I don’t believe they’ll be able to pay Rasheed Walker a 2nd contract anyway. Aaron Banks has been almost exclusively a left guard. Immediately, Benton wouldn’t be expected to crack the starting lineup but in time I’d think he’s a starting right tackle. That leaves center and right guard for Elgton Jenkins and Zach Tom. Somehow, it’ll work I’m sure, maybe really, really well. But I’m just guessing. With the way the Packers have shaken up the draft process from what we’re used to, I shouldn’t be surprised at any way the O-line takes shape.
