Packers 24, Rams 19: Game Balls / Lame Calls
It wasn't pretty, but Green Bay hangs on for an important win.

Sometimes, you gotta win ugly, and get a bit lucky doing so. The Packers escaped the City of Angels with an important 24-19 win over the Rams, and there should always be a little time reserved to savor a victory. But this team and its coaching staff have to know that the to-do list remains long for a club with aspirations for a deep playoff run.
On the plus side: Jordan Love is clearly on the mend, with more mobility and confidence than he showed last week against the Vikings. We still aren’t feeling the Love of late last season; there were times when his throws were tentative and lacked his usual zip. And as amazing as the first-drive bomb to Jayden Reed was, throwing into quadruple coverage was dubious, but Reed is one of the few NFL receivers who can to turn that kind of play into gold. Love got better as the game went along, as the Packers regained some of their third-quarter magic from last year. Meanwhile, Brayden Narveson drilled his only field-goal attempt, a 46-yarder, offering hope that maybe he can turn things around.
Defensively, Jeff Hafley was more aggressive, dialing up more blitzes than in previous outings. This was both positive and curious, given that Matthew Stafford is a known blitz killer, and in a few cases chunk plays for the Rams resulted. But the pressure caused Stafford to miss targets on several occasions. And Hafley’s crew once again came up with key turnovers, led as usual by Xavier McKinney, who had yet another interception and should have had a second one. Overall the defense is still a work in progress and without a clear identity, despite some lofty statistics. Erratic play at linebacker continues to bite, as do mysteriously mediocre performances from key personnel who are paid to be difference makers. More on this later.
GAME BALLS
Xavier McKinney — It’s getting repetitive, but his football IQ and opportunistic instinct for the ball are rendering superlatives inadequate to describe his talents. At least one interception in each of five games to start a season hasn’t happened since 1970, and he is on pace for a record-shattering year. A tremendous free-agent acquisition. 🏈🏈🏈🏈
Tucker Kraft — This man is everything one could want in a tight end. In addition to toughness and movement skills, he’s playing with remarkable nuance and intelligence for a second-year player, selling his blocking stance before he leaks out, finding holes in zone coverage and showing some speed and a nose for the end zone. He’s both a security blanket and a difference-maker. 🏈🏈🏈🏈
Jordan Love — It wasn’t one of his stellar games overall, and his almost-safety that became a pick-six was cringe-worthy, but the way he shook it off earns him game balls. He came out in the third quarter focused and on fire, hitting nine straight completions. Not converting a third down until the third quarter is never good, but when you finally break through as a result of a 12-yard scramble, you’re doing what it takes to grind out a win. 🏈🏈🏈
UNSUNG HERO
Evan Williams — The rookie fourth-round safety is arguably having the most impactful season of any player from this year’s draft class. Edgerrin Cooper might surpass him when fully healthy and able to play more snaps, but Williams came up big in the game on a couple of occasions, including breaking up the Rams’ final pass on fourth down to end things. He also quietly led the team in tackles with 10. Cooper deserves an honorable mention here, showing a knack for getting to the quarterback in key situations.
LAME CALLS
Quay Walker — Officially the most frustrating player to watch on this team, his inconsistency is beginning to approach bust territory. He’ll show up with an occasional stellar play, as when he burst into the backfield in the second quarter to drop Rams’ RB Karen Williams for a loss. But more often than not he’s a deer in the headlights staring at the opposing quarterback while receivers cross behind him for easy completions. I could understand this if he was spying on a running QB, but in general he’s a play follower instead of a play maker. He is always among the team leaders in tackle totals, because he does little to disrupt the play before it gets to him.
Dontayvion Wicks — Suddenly, a darling of last year’s draft class has the drops, and it’s a big concern, especially if the Romeo Doubs situation lingers. Wicks has clearly lost his confidence, and the coaching staff needs to help him get his swagger back pronto. Bo Melton and Malik Heath are serviceable pieces, but they are not difference makers the way Wicks can be.
Daniel Whelan — After heaping praise on the man last week, we watched Whelan have his worst game of the year, averaging 37 yards per punt. That won’t hunt.
FINAL WHISTLES
Things should obviously look better when Jaire Alexander and Devonte Wyatt return, and when Cooper can play most if not all downs, perhaps replacing Walker at Mic. But overall this defense still does not look or feel trustworthy. Lofty takeaway statistics are high variance and likely to regress to something closer to the league average. What we have yet to see is any level of domination, while still being inconsistent when it comes to shutting down drives and getting off the field. This was a hobbled Rams team with numerous key contributors out, yet they marched down the field frequently. So far, the Packers are managing to weather the ups and downs, but we should be seeing a higher level of play and fewer nail-biters against inferior or injury-riddled teams. I still have schematic questions, but more important is that there are too many players like Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness and Preston Smith who should be difference-makers and who are largely non-factors this year. GPG.

The only one I'll argue with is Love... you don't get a lot of credit in my book due to the fact that your sucky play/decisions didn't continue for the whole game. Yes, I'm glad the last part of his game was considerably better, but overall his complete game was pretty middling, not game ball stuff.

Love didn't play much if any of preseason so i think we can give him a small pass, he will come around like last year. Drops are a problem at this point Wicks not sure what's going on but hopefully confidence comes back. Reed is the guy nice draft pick just shows up and plays. The defensive line and line backers are missing in action Cooper has been pretty good but the rest are just not buying into DC plan, Smith and Gary can't say i remember any great plays from them. Clark again just not getting done. Slaton has been eh! Wyatt thought was really coming around till injury hopefully gets back soon. Defense on whole C- maybe need to find their identity. McKinney, Williams, Bullard are doing well.

Very important win, finally got an NFC victory. Overcame some bad Love decisions and passes, and a spotty defensive performance.
They absolutely have to get some push from the center of the d line and get Smith and Gary to get pressure. Even when it was obvious the Rams were going to have to pass there was no pressure and they were also very susceptible to the screens. Our linebackers and d line are weak points. You have to be lucky to win with millstones like that. It was a game where you could say the short handed Rams lost, more than the Packers won. But it’s still an important W.

Five from the front seven are Number One picks. Clark and Slaton were pushing the pocket as the game moved on, but they don't have the burst of Wyatt to put the QB down. Just keeping Cooper on the field will improve the synergy. Walker doesn't move the needle. Not an instinctive plugger. Evan Williams is another
playmaker who knows the game and needs to stay on the field. Stokes should watch him and learn the basic technique of playing the ball at the receivers hands. Beautiful play by him to close out the Game.

Joe Burrow said last night that his team is currently not playing at the level of a playoff team. I fear that reality says the same about GB. Hopefully injuries don't keep it that way; 3-2 is certainly not a barrier, but there's plenty of problems to fix. And they're becoming persistent.
#7 not playing the Mike LB would be one step. He plays astoundingly well, in some situations, on some plays. Getting him out of situations where he doesn't play well is important. There's some depth on the roster, but who's a true Mike? I mean, X can't do everything ... (can he?)

I agree with you on Walker. I focused on him a bit and he's definitely not a mike. He avoids taking on plays head-on and sometimes appears to purposely let runners go by so he can attack from the side or chase it. He is way more comfortable chasing than stepping into a gap and taking on RBs head-on.

He blitzed a few times early and got burnt. Then he went pure vanilla till the 4th quarter really before trying more. No stunts really against an inexperienced OL. Very unimaginative for the majority of the game.

October 07, 2024 at 03:36 pm
That's my problem with the line right now, Hafley can see what the fans see, no pressure at all. Why not try a stunt, or really anything, then four guys smashing themselves against 5 in straight line. Look I understand Chris Jones, is all pro, but one thing the chiefs do, is allow him to line up anywhere on the line, depending on match ups. Why not juggle assignments and match ups.

October 07, 2024 at 05:58 pm
Thats a problem as I see it. Hafly is trying to adjust his d based on the team he is facing. He knew three of the top three O linemen are out so its rookies and what ever and he knew the two top receivers were out so he called blitzes knowing his piss poor pass d could survive.
You cant do this, is too cornfusing trying to change up your d plan and consistency every week.
He's really just trying to cover for the fact his pass rush aint working and his pass d is awful minus McKinny.

Winning a game when they are without 2 of their top 3 WR's. Without their speedy TE (which they have yet to figure out a good role for). Love is still knocking off the rust. But the more he plays the better he is getting. Just need to clean up the mistakes (dropped passes).
GAME BALLS
Xavier McKinney —
I mean what more can you say. This has been the best FA signing since Woodson.
Tucker Kraft —
Kraft has been outstanding. When the offense gets going full gear Kraft is going to be a huge piece because defenses are going to focus on shutting Reed and Watson down. And they will be focused on trying to stop Jacobs. Kraft is going to make teams pay.
Jordan Love — "It wasn’t one of his stellar games overall, and his almost-safety that became a pick-six was cringe-worthy, but the way he shook it off earns him game balls."
While this may sound bad, but the pick 6 may have been the best thing that could have happened there. Hear me out. IF, they take a safety there, that is 2 points. And they give the ball to the Rams. Which if they go down and score right before half they potentially add 7 more points. And then they got the ball after half which if they go down and score again that could have been 16 points from the time they took the safety until they got the ball back again. That is a huge change in the game. Instead they give up the 6 points (failed extra point), and the Packers go down and get a FG. In other words a 3 point differential, which could have been a 16 point differential.
Love looked much better overall.
UNSUNG HERO
Evan Williams/Edgerrin Cooper —
Williams was good. But Cooper is becoming a force on blitzes. His speed is insane and if it wasn't for Cooper blitzing on that final play and getting in Staffords face, they likely complete that 4th down play. But he threw it early and Williams was able to help knock that play down.
Brayden Narveson —
He made all 4 of his kicks. And not only did he make them he kicked them with authority. There was not wobble to his kicks.. They were all straight and looked more like they did in week 1. I think this was a good confidence builder for him!
LAME CALLS
Dropped passes —
I think Wicks had 2 drops? Both were huge plays. The one was a play that would have been a first down and the final one could have ended the game.
Reed also dropped a really easy first down. Those kill drives and make the offense look worse then it really is.
Doubs —
While I don't know exactly how he feels or what exactly is going on, not showing up to practice is inexcusable. Talk about hurting your team. They are already without 1 WR. And to pull this shit now is just not good. This just makes no sense to me because in 2 of the 4 games they had a back up QB. And the one week the QB is coming back from injury.
FINAL WHISTLES
Getting Watson back will make the offense reach its full potential. But there are a few pieces that when they add them I think will be a huge bonus for this team. I think they are going to find a way to utilize Musgrave more. His speed to stretch the middle of the field I think will be added to the offense. When Lloyd comes back I think he is going to add an explosive option out of the backfield.
On defense they need to swap Cooper and McDuffie. McDuffie is just too slow to be an every down player. And Cooper is too good to not be on the field more. Also I wouldn't mind seeing Hopper potentially starting to get some of the reps that Wilson gets. I would like to see them find a way to play Williams and Bullard together more. Maybe take away a LB on some plays, or use Bullard in the slot more. Also I think its time to start using Mosby and/or Cox as a pass rusher. Neither Gary nor Smith are doing much. They need to find juice from somewhere. They kept those guys for a reason, its time to start using them.
Cleanup time - Time to clean up the penalties. Way to many again this week. Especially presnap penalties. I think there were 2 false starts by WR's. Can't happen ever!

Don't forget that Tucker Kraft is playing while hurt. His current bum shoulder probably wouldn't have become an issue without the torn pec. (My purely non medical professional opinion, but this is generally how the human body works)
I expect that he will not return to 100% this season, and maybe the injury won't get better at all, not even during the bye week. Which is to say that his ceiling is substantially higher than anything we've seen yet!
Lots of talent sitting on the bench, agreed that should be tapped into. I was hoping this would become an easy cruise to victory type game where you could experiment with things like this without consequence even if that experiment failed. It didn't happen, and I don't fault MLF for not making those substitutions; the game was on the line in a nail biter instead.
Rather than pinning hopes on #9 to "make the offense get right," I want to see #80 Bo Melton used in his role just because he matches the speed and it will keep JL10 in tune with it. Even if he never gets targeted it spreads out the opposing defense which is "the MVS role." (We can retire that name, it functions the same no matter what you call it)
Lloyd never cured his fumbling habit, I'm not eager to see him rushed onto the field. I'm not sure #8 needs the "rest" he's being given, but #31 seems to be doing well; I was a fan of his last year, too. I do want to see MLF use the run game more, more consistently, and AGNFB with a "balanced offense" that no opposing defense has any hope to stop. I do think we have the talent to do that, even with the current injuries.

I wonder if our struggles against the blitz meant we underused Melton deep. It could easily be just strategy, but I think more Melton and less Wicks would have yielded benefits yesterday. Heath played a lot of Z. let Melton play some Z and play his speed and Reed’s off against the D and have Heath at X more. It does show just how much dirty work Doubs is asked to do though.
It wasn’t a particularly impressive first half game plan from LaFleur in my opinion. Nor does he ever seem to really try to get Love into rhythm with a few easy routes. One big pass and the run game disappears for a half. LaFleur can do better than that I believe.

I don't disagree with you often, and I can't now except for one thing.
I'm not sure Watson's return is going to be as significant as you suggest. I haven't seen enough to call him anything near a #1 receiver, and he's a 'China Doll' when it comes to being fragile.
If his "fifth year option" was due today, would you re-sign him?

Watson stretches the D in a way that we don’t have without him, due to his size/speed combination. He’s also a big target. Yesterday his biggest contribution might have been less Wicks on third down.

Yes, this was a dinged up Rams team, but so were the Packers. The Rams top two receivers were out, but the Packers were without Watson, Doubs and Musgrave. The Rams O-line was makeshift, but so was the Packer secondary with Alexander out and Nixon playing outside. Both teams had injuries so it wasn't obvious to me that the Packers had an advantage.
Not sure I would have given Love a game ball after that horrible pick six. I thought Evan Willaims was more deserving of a game ball.

Williams and Cooper need to become fixtures. It may well be that Bullard is the best slot, but even if not ,Williams is a playmaker.
Nixon may be a Hafley darling, but he should never ever be outside corner on a regular basis if there’s a corner left standing. I will be interested to see if Bullard does more in the slot as time passes, if he’s given more chances. However, if Bullard supplants him there, that does not make Nixon one of our top 4 perimeter options.
This team looks better with rookies even making mistakes. They do things the incumbents can’t. If we want to get better, we need to play and that also means getting some situational snaps for guys like Hopper. At this point I’m wondering if a few snaps from Mosby would do any harm. He’s a different type of rusher and we badly lack variety.
Cooper looks like a Mike instinctively but not in terms of Physique. Walker is the reverse. I can’t help feeling that we’d be better letting both play to skill set/instinct regardless, at least part of the time. I think both would benefit. The question is durability, but if the play improves, isn’t that a chance we have to take?

Quay Walker has all the physical tools. What he lacks is the inability to grasp more complex NFL systems. Either find something basic he can do, like rush the QB in likely passing situations, or be ready to let him leave town when his contract is up.
Narveson was missing FG's, true. But it seemed he was consistently pulling the ball to one side. That is fixable. But this goes to a larger problem. Why didn't Bisaccia address this earlier? He is the highest paid ST's coach in the league. And does anyone remember how some writers on this site wrote he was going to come up with creative ways to take advantage of the new kickoff rules? Which brings up the next point. Why is Keisean Nixon still on the team? He is a non-factor on kickoffs (see above), and is a liability in the defensive backfield. Notice that on Sunday Stafford was regularly throwing to receivers at Nixon.
Finally, why has there been no mention of the total lack of containment on the outside of the defense when runs were regularly bounced outside? Once again, mediocre RB's were making big pickups to the outside. Once they tried going up the middle, things changed drastically.

Usually I agree with your takes ricky, but not as much this time except for Quay Walker. I think the problem with Narveson's kicking was not apparent until the game against the Vikings. It was subtle because it was only happening in games, which is a small sample size. It wasn't happening in practice.
Bisacchia has not figured out creative ways to use the new kickoff rules because that's probably impossible, and nobody else has figured it out either. The new kickoff was dead in the water before the season even started. I actually give Bisacchia a little credit for not being afraid to put the ball in play on kickoffs, which has resulted in stopping the opposition short of the 30-yard-line most times. This new setup actually makes it harder to generate big returns, yet there is still not enough disincentive to kick the ball onto the end zone. The worst of both worlds.
I think Nixon is a decent slot CB, and he has made a few big plays from that position this season. Let's hope we see more of him there and less of him as a boundary CB going forward.
I thought the defense's containment was okay and that the Rams' RB's did most of their damage between the tackles, but I could be wrong about that. It would be helpful to see the stats or to hear from somebody here who paid more attention to it than I did.

Narveson had as good a day as he could have. But he’s still a question mark. He only attempted one field goal. He’s going to need to keep doing well before he’s off the hook. A positive start but a long road to real trust.
I very much agree that the run issue was primarily between the tackles.

NO.
You're SPECULATING about what the problem might be. Maybe you're right, maybe it's something else? What's clear is that he's not doing what a WR is paid to do, which is CTFB.
I'm not sure what the solution is here. It seems to me that the strategy of getting all your playmakers involved early should also result in playing the hot hand, and not targeting someone having an off week.
Hopefully this gets FIXED, and this week.

He can turn this round, or at least others have. Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Adams. That doesn’t mean he will. Many don’t. While he is, since we have other options, we need to reduce the focus on him and try to give him some easy completions when we do to get him in rhythm. He looked visibly frustrated at times yesterday.

The Defense: The data strongly suggests that the Packers defense is a 'below-the-median' defense in quite a few measures, but that the takeaways are helping to balance the scales. On the other hand, after the first TD, the defense did hold the Rams to squat until we went 'prevent' with a comfortable lead. Yes, the Rams had some injured guys,so did we, and you have to play the team that's on the field.
There's been some criticism of guys like Gary and Clark and VanNess. These guys are part of an 8 man wave of fresh bodies we keep throwing at teams, and as the game wears on, and as the season wears on, it's going to become a bigger and bigger advantage. They're going to show up.
Despite the change in defensive philosophy...which seems to be working....and the new DC and an infusion of talent, I don't see much in the way of improvement over last year's bunch, and if we hadn't acquired McKinney, we'd probably be worse. I hope that I'm wrong, and our defense goes on a tear, but right now, it just doesn't really seem any better.
The Offense just can't stop hitting itself. This is the thing that surprises me the most, because we're leaving points on the field and we're still one of the top scoring offenses. The line, which was a concern in the offseason, is getting guys blocked. Reed and Jacobs/Wilson are moving the ball. But the penalties, and the drops, and the turnovers, are stealing oxygen from this offense. IF/WHEN the Packers get that under control, they'll be legit. Right now in the NFC, the Commies and Vikings are the leading offenses, with the Packers a ways behind in 3rd.
Special Teams: I don't like to see that fullback come out and kick FGs. At the very least, they should give him Jerry Kramer's #64. He made all his kicks, and we should have gone for 2 after the TDs. The Packers showed good sense by refusing to try to turn it over on a kick or punt return.
The AZ game next week looks a little less winnable than before they beat the 49ers, but still winnable. Quite a few teams in the league are 3-2 right now, but we have a stretch of "easier" games that could see us run it to 6-2 by the end of October. We're going to have to tighten it up on offense.

Good point about the defense. The improvement, which has been modest at best, can basically be all attributed to Xavier McKinney. With his oustanding play and the competent play of Bullard and Williams, the safety group, which was our worst defensive unit last year, is now head and shoulders above the rest.
I hope you are right about our wave of pass rushers getting better as the season goes on. It could happen.

The guys blocking them will get hurt and they'll be replaced by backups. We'll get to line up a fresh Kenny Clark across from Royce Newman or worse.
We're 6th in sacks, 7th in Opposing QB Passer Rating, 8th in Adjusted Net Yards/Pass Attempt. This would strongly suggest a Top 10 Pass defense at this point. And we're 31st in blitz %, so that makes me think we're rushing 4 and still getting to the QB at a pretty good rate.
It's a work in progress. There's so much talent there that I can't believe we won't get better.

The defense in a new system is giving up 1 points more per game(the horror!) compared to last year with three rookies, two of whom are steadily getting more snaps per week. After having 18 takeaways all of last year they have 14 in 5 games. Barry is gone and I for one am very, very happy about that.

Am I the only one that thinks MLF's (McCarthy-istic) calling of three runs and a (28 yard) punt with almost 4 minutes left fits that category? Love was snapping the ball with 10-12 seconds left on the play clock.

It was disappointing that our offense couldn't pound in some coffin nails by getting a first down or two. It's a better-than-average offense, and it's leaving lots of points on the field, and all we needed was a couple of plays that gained 10 yards.

See how a made Field Goal alters the complete outlook of the game - Rams driving for a TD at the end vs a Field Goal - huge difference, especially with an offense that can't put away a game when it has a significant lead.

I keep waiting to hear what the plan is for the weak pass rush. The Fanbase upset with Barry may have camoflaged or distracted from the ongoing poor showing of the front 4. I think Gary has a contract through 2027-I didn't look into the others.
What is the recourse? Discipline? Coaching? Are Gary, Smith et al just not capable against today's strong O-lines? Can they be re-trained to be more effective? This cannot continue when this Division is dealing with the Vikes and Lions.

The "weak pass rush" is 6th in the NFL in sacks. It's also pressured QBs into the most interceptions in the league, and an Opposing QB passer rating that's 7th best .
If this is a weak pass rush, what about 25 other teams that aren't as good?

There you go again with your numbers and math. Vibes are the coin of the realm.

We are currently 7th with 16. The leaders are the Giants with 22. However, half of those sacks came in one game, 7 in one half, against a woeful OL that is conceding the second most sacks per game (only the mess in Cleveland is worse). For all but one half we have been among the most ineffectual in terms of snaps.
Of the three players that have 2 sacks or more, one, Wyatt (4) is injured. Preston Smith has 2.5 and the next is Nixon with 2. 5 of our sacks have been from blitzers. Our front only has 11, of which half are Wyatt and P Smith. Our front 7 have greatly underperformed against expectations and the league.
The thing about stats is context. At this point we have a problem and the stats emphasize that when actually dug into.

There's also four teams getting byes this week. We know how much LH likes the simple stats but counting stats need to be taken on a per games basis while the byes are going on, or at least an asterisk placed by the number.

I think performance stats are better measures than volume stats, but due to the uneven schedules, and the relatively small sample size, you're going to have more variation early in the season than later on.
I'm not a guy who thinks everything is relative to the situation; at some point, you have to use the same yardstick on everybody. Yes, you need to temper that with an appreciation of the circumstances, but not everything can be some kind of PFF subjective ranking.

Many of those sacks came in one quarter of one game against a really bad team. Most of our sacks are from blitzing safeties and LB's. How many sacks does our front 4 have? The games I'm watching certainly isn't showing itself to be a savage sacking team with a dominant front 4. I see our front 4 getting swallowed up 95% of the time. Also, Other than the Queens, look at the crappy injured teams we have played so far. Yesterday Clark was lined up against the worst rated guards and center in the NFL, and again vanished. This defense is not very good up front, at the corners and at LB right now. We aren't scaring anyone. Without these turnovers we would be likely 0-5 right now. Much improvement needed.

I didn't realize that sacks were apportioned vs strength of opponent and quarter of the game. I guess it's similar to giving up points in the first half as opposed to the second half of games? Is there a "strength of sack" metric somewhere or does this only come into play in your mind.

You're right. Sorry bout that.

This "one quarter of one game" stuff.
Let's take away the first quarter against Minnesota....how does our defense look then?
I'm kind of surprised, really, that there's so much opposition to acknowledging simple facts, and then engaging in sophistry to say that good isn't good.

Gary was not an effective pass rusher in college. Pre draft analyst said he lacked upper body strength and had issues with the bigger o linemen. Probably a second or early third round pick.
So pack fans that bought into the "oh my we got Gary at 12" were so lucky were made the fool by gutt the genius.
Gary is not and other then high school, been a dominant pass rusher. We're just paying him like he is

jeez buddy, you're wasting an incredible opportunity to go deep troll. why aren't you mining a potential quarterback controversy. Willis quarterback rating and his won/loss record are far exceeding Jordan Love's and you can't even figure out that you could be dipping your toes in it.
You really disappoint me. I expect more from your ilk. if i were over on the minneapolis boards you can be sure i'd be highlighting Jefferson's hatred of Sam Darnold and his weak-ass arm and inability to extend plays and throw Jefferson open. #sad

All that counts in surprise Powerhouse N is a W.
Love has been criticized and rightly so getting fitted into his groove.
What will help is getting the band back together. The Fab Four led by Reed needs bandmates Doubs (shelving his ego), Watson (snakebit injuries a forgettable memory), and Wicks (lots of stick em on hands) to join him cranking out the hits. Thor (aka Tucker Kraft) is producing hammering hits of his own blocking, & catching, running, straight arming for TDs.
The run game is getting stronger. Jacobs is a beast and Wilson roars too. Rhyan is helping the infantry and is mostly a solid RG overall. OL is coming together.
Defense bending badly but not breaking much. Turnovers are the great equalizer and they are harvesting a bumper crop so far.
The front seven is underperforming. Cooper needs to start at Mike and Walker needs a simplier life on the field. He is still playing Barry Ball LB...standing at the snap, reacting a step slow and taking poor routes to the ball. His athletic skills are not in doubt...his football IQ is. I'd like to see some snaps by Hopper replacing the steady and ready McDuffie, who doesn't make many plays.
Does Brooks need to start? He seems to get better with increasing snaps during the game. I don't think musical chairs at DT fits his game. He is one of those grind down the opponent guys.
What is wrong with Gary? He plays like a back up, rotational player. Enagbare is outplaying him...especially in hustle to the whistle football.
Hafley is still evaluating who his best fits are in general and specifically for the upcoming opponent. But this is a Safety led Defense right now. Who would have thought? Why NY made the 24 year old McKinney an X Giant amazing. Bullard, and now Williams are playing incredible ball as rookies. I would think a 3 Safety Nickel is the way to go.

Right on. Let's not lose sight of all the positives. We're also breaking in a bunch of new safeties and LB's. Get them healthy and give them half a season to, you know, get seasoned.

I raved about the McKinney and Jacobs additions and wanted u to draft Kraft; glad we did.
Jacobs finally received a screen pass—and bam: big yardage.
Love’s game demeanor is impressive—he always appears unshaken/calm. I severely criticized him in his first game against the Chiefs and I’m eating humble pie.
This was a sloppy performance, but like last season, our best days are ahead, especially if the pass rush is improved.
Go Packers!!!

Another thing. I read something a couple of weeks ago about one of the coaches telling Tucker Kraft he reminded them of Mark Bavaro. Kraft didn't know who he was (because...youth), but he really dug into MB's old highlights. And I'll be darned if Kraft doesn't look a lot like a more athletic version of Bavaro a lot of times out there on the field. His TD last week against the Vikings and the long TD this week were both very Bavaro-esque, if you ask me. Love seeing it.

They won. They faced an undermanned Rams team and won. They needed to add blizes to make up for the fact the 4 man front is dong nada. They needed to blitz knowing the pass d is doing nada. Now heres the issues going forward since I assume they play next week?
1. Love's decision making aint great. His throwing deep to a guy covered by three defensemen is mind blowing. Had to be someone open out there? This will costs him big time going forward.
2. The pass rush works when we send 7 against an O line that sitting on the bench replaced by second and third stringers.
3. Kicking game finally worked for one game.
Looking ahead its a crap shoot. For sure this aint a SB contender, maybe not a playoff team either??? Who knows.

Gary was double teamed on nearly ever passing play. Tough to have an impact in that situation. Hafley needs to scheme him open. Move him around. They know he’s coming from the weak side. Every single time! Seems some creativity in freeing up the d-line would help.

In the Packers vs. Rams game, the Packers secured a narrow 24-19 victory, showcasing strong performances that earned game balls. However, some questionable calls had fans debating the officiating. Just like in the popular Monkey Mart game, where players navigate challenges to earn rewards, the Packers faced their own hurdles but ultimately emerged victorious.
