General Info:
Keion White grew up in and went to high school in Garner, North Carolina. While in high school, White starred for the Garner Trojans, adding to the school’s impressive athletic legacy that includes Nyheim Hines and the NBA player John Wall. Despite this, White was a sparsely recruited prospect. 247Sports lists him as a composite 3-star prospect, the 141st best TE prospect (the position he was recruited as), and the 86th highest ranked North Carolinian. Ultimately, White committed to Old Dominion—the only school that offered him.
White was redshirted his Freshman year at Old Dominion and did not appear in a single game for the Monarchs. In his sophomore season in 2018, he became the full-time starter at TE for the Monarchs, starting all eight games he appeared in and recorded 11 catches for 124 yards.
During Spring practices the following season, White transitioned to defensive end, and would start all 12 games of Old Dominions 2019 season at the position. After recording 62 total tackles, 19 tackles-for-loss, and 3.5 sacks, he was named Second Team All-Conference. Unfortunately, White was not given a chance to build on that success, as Old Dominion cancelled their 2020 season due to Covid-19. Following what would have been his redshirt Junior season, White transferred to Georgia Tech with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
White’s first season as a Yellow Jacket did not go as planned; an offseason injury cost him all but four games in 2021, and he failed to record a single sack. With one year of eligibility remaining, White made the easy choice to stick around for his redshirt Senior season, and may very well have catapulted himself into the first round of the NFL draft. In 12 games, White recorded 54 tackles, 14 TFLs, and 7.5 sacks while wowing scouts with his impressive athleticism.
White’s suddenly shining star continued to burn even brighter after the 2022 NCAA season concluded. He was invited to the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl, and while scout/talking head Daniel Jeremiah said he didn’t necessarily have any “wow” moments, White was consistently very good. Scouts at the Senior Bowl seemed to feel similarly, indicating that they believed he could go in the top 20 of the NFL Draft. White was also invited to the annual NFL Scouting Combine. While he did not participate in every drill (and I’ve been unable to find an explanation, which suggests he may be waiting for his Pro Day for some of them), he showed excellent ability in the drills he did do. His 30-reps during the Bench were tied for the second most among defensive lineman, and he performed well in both the Broad and Vertical Jumps. Perhaps the area White most stood-out though? His raw measurements—White is a big edge player at 6’5” 285 lbs. and his size presents intriguing possibility; a creative DC can make a monster out of him.
Positional Skills:
Strengths
White’s impressive combination of athleticism and size creates some massive versatility. He should be able to play any of: 3-4 END, 4-3 END, 3-4 OLB, and perhaps even see some snaps as an interior lineman in certain formations.
To just follow-up on the athleticism comment; he does not move like a 285 lb. man; he has remarkable fluidity and agility. These clips of him doing the “Run and Club” and “Wave Drills” at the Combine from WalkTheMock are great examples. There’s also this clip of White (did I mention he is 285 lbs.?) going step-for-step with a running back. Whoever drafts White is getting one of the freakiest of a freaky edge class.
Solid production in college. Despite only converting to the defensive side of the ball in 2019 (and only playing two and a quarter seasons at the position due to an offseason injury and the cancellation of Old Dominion’s 2020 season), White was able to manage 7.5 sacks last year against some decent ACC competition. He should continue to develop.
High motor player; there’s not a play White doesn’t try to finish, and he’ll spend all day fighting through blocks.
White bends well, and combines that with excellent raw speed and power. As he continues to become more efficient in using his natural traits, he can become an absolute game-wrecker.
Weaknesses
As indicated in a number of the “Pros” for Keion White: he is a work in progress as a very raw edge player who is still learning the position after starting his career at Tight End.
Lacks consistency, probably because of his lack of polish. He is overly reliant on athletic traits and doesn’t have the technicality to overcome offensive lineman who can handle his raw traits.
White is an old prospect; he will be 24 on draft day.
Short arms for his size.
Lack of experience shows. White is not instinctive, nor a quick processor at this time.
Also developing his hands. He’s had a tendency to give up first contact to the offensive lineman he is working against, and can get erased from plays due to inferior positioning as a result. Struggles to shed blocks when he gets beat like that,
Fit with the Packers:
It seems very, very likely that White goes in the first round, though some draft aggregates see him as a trait-heavy day two pick. Daniel Jeremiah currently has White ranked as his 27th best prospect, but has previously had him as high as number eight. Additionally, rumblings at the Combine suggest White is likely to be made a top-20 pick by a team that values athleticism and believes they can develop him.
Now what team values highly athletic, if somewhat raw EDGE/DL players and has a strong recent track record in developing them after making them 1st round picks…
Keion White is a classic Packers’ first rounder in everything but his age, and we saw Green Bay overlook a prospects age in the first round last year. The Packers love guys like White who offer incredible versatility and upside, even if the floor is lower. While he isn’t necessarily my favorite option at 15, he could absolutely be in play for the Packers at that spot. Draft White, let him follow the Rashan Gary development path, and profit. I think White would be an excellent fit in Green Bay as a rotational pass-rusher for his first season or two, before allowing him to step in as a full-time starter once Preston Smith moves on.

IIRC he had a pretty decent Senior Bowl too, which means he's automatically on Gutey's radar...
He'd be great to have in the rotation until Gary makes it back to full strength...
Just depends on where teams value him. I suspect some teams have him much higher than others and late in the 1st round he'll likely be gone. I don't think Gutey would draft him at 15 overall, but I also didn't think he'd draft Gary at 12, but he did...

White is a player I really like who would look good on the Packers. I would think he will be drafted in the bottom half of round 1.
There seems to be a lot of quality edge rushers in this draft and good ones will be there even in round 4. Why reluctantly I'd likely pass on Edge in round 1 to focus on skill players where there seems to be a drastic drop off in talent after round 1. Top WR's like Johnston, Addison, or JSN, otherwise TE's Kincaid, Washington, Musgrave, or Mayer. Possible one of the top 3-4 OL.

Never know what Gutey will do, but if I had to bet by past performance, I'd bet he'll go OL/OLBer/CB/DL/or S in the first round, if we only have one 1st round pick. If we have two 1st round picks, I would expect any two of them... ; )

I like that you only mentioned 5 positions as a possibility. That's some renegade shit right there!!!!

The draft boards have some high-potential edges going in the middle rounds, but I think teams will go after them by the end of round three. I expect guys like YaYa Diaby and Robert Beal to go WAY higher than "predicted." Teams are willing to roll the dice on highly-athletic pass rushers; at worst, they are potentially stars and likely good-quality special teams players.
I remember when Jerimiah (not long ago) put White at #8; tI think the Rashan Gary comparison is a good one. Will Gute see him as BPA at 15? This is an awfully good/deep first three rounds, because of the Covid eligibility. Guys are older, but the quality is higher than usual (I wish, just like last year, that we had traded last year's second first rounder for picks THIS year!)

This guy scares the crap out of me because he’s got bust written all over him.
I’d prefer “players” we draft have real resumes. Proven records of their abilities in playing top level football.
No projects.
No injury histories.
No pure athletes.
No projections.
Players only. Proven talents only.
Draft selections are all important, especially Days 1 & 2, plus R4-5. They should be treated as such. Heighten the probability of return through optimization of draft parameters.
The Packers are truly in need of about 4-5 blue chip players. Draftees with resumes that small, especially with injury histories attached, should be removed from their board.

I agree, no projects in round 1. However, round 2 offers a good possibility because he could fill two needs as a stout DL or edge at the least on a rotational basis. He had some of his best games against ranked teams( Clemson, Miss, UNC). Hmmmm, ok that swayed me into moving up into the bottom of 1st round for him.

Thanks, sh. I like all of those guys, along with some others.
LOL. If we snapped Nolan and Felix with 13 & 15... that would be a scream! I'd be elated.
Sacks taken by another team is the generally the most accurate indicator of which team will win or lose a football game. Before learning of this I always thought it was TOs.
No Safety is going to do jack if he doesn't have a pass rush in front of him.
Should the Packers trade AR and get another R1, I wouldn't mind them using one at EDGE, the other at the best pass rushing DT in the draft.
There are plenty of good EDGE players in this draft, and snapping the best two that we possibly can straight away at #13 and #15 might be a godsend to the Packers secondary.
Considering the "sacks taken" aspect, another option, hitting both sides of the trenches with the best EDGE and the best OT available, could prove to be a smart play as well.
Yet, one more option that would address both sides of the "sacks taken" quotient would be adding both an EDGE and the best blocking TE in the draft who can also catch like a SOB with Picks #13 & 15...

Bird Dog, PEO, & GG,
You guys are talking my language. I would not be upset with two big menacing defenders both at Edge, or an Edge with a DL. I am in full agreement about beefing up the front 7 before the back-end at Safety. This year though I am feeling a skilled player in round 1 might be the way I'd go. It all depends do we have one or two picks in rounds 1 & 2? Then of course who is sitting there when drafting. I am thinking there is going to be a very good chance the Packers take Dalton Kincaid in round 1. That or Michael Mayer, or Darnell Washington. My bet is on Dalton Kincaid at the moment. Again, depends on how the draft falls and how many picks the Packers have.
At Edge after the big three of Will Andersen, Tyree Wilson & Luckas Van Ness I am torn between guys like Keion White, Adetomiwa Adebawore, BJ Ojulari, Myles Murphy & Nolan Smith. Will McDonald, and Felix Anudike - Uzomah, Mike Morris. I mean there is a good dozen Edge rushers. This is why I feel like depending on who is there with #13, or #15 there is still going to be a very good Edge rusher at #43 & #45.
There is a WR that is really growing on me that no one seems to be talking much about named Kayshon Boutte from LSU. He is only 20-years old but I like his tape a lot. Good size speed combo at 6' and 205 lbs running a 4.5. Not sure if he is a round 2 or round 3 guy but think many are sleeping on him and at only 20-years of age there is a lot of untapped development there.

Defense wins Championships.
This whole draft carries with it depth at 3 of our 4 need positions: OT, EDGE, and TE.
Safety is another big need for the Packers, and they should be able to get a good one by the end of Day 2 or early Day 3. There are 5 of them that I really like in this draft.
I wouldn't mind if Gutekunst snapped any of CB Devon Witherspoon or WR Quentin Johnston/WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba @ 13 & 15.
Unless AR retires. Then, I still wouldn't mind....!!!! I'm trusting our Personnel Dept. under Gutekunst will have their choice(s) ready given any scenario.
Also would not mind trading out if a top talent doesn't drop into our laps.

I like my Felix, then target Zach Harrison in rd two. Get extra shots in rd two. Morris from Michigan played the edge strong as a 5 tech in rd four.
