Matt LaFleur Is Awesome

Matt LaFleur is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

The Green Bay Packers are 2-0 with Malik Willis as their starting quarterback, entering a big divisional matchup against the 3-0 Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field this Sunday.

The Packers have remained competitive after Jordan Love went down with an MCL sprain in Brazil. With Malik Willis under center, Green Bay's offense has averaged 23 points per game and excelled in the running game. Notably, the team has the fourth-most rushing yards to start a season in NFL history.

The passing game has been efficient, with everything clicking for the Packers. Malik Willis has been productive, receivers are consistently getting open, and the offensive line has been stellar. Entering Week 4, they rank as the second-best unit in pass-blocking efficiency, allowing just 13 pressures in 81 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

At Tennessee, Willis completed just 51% of his passes, with no touchdowns, three interceptions, and a passer rating of 39.0—lower than the 39.6 rating you'd get from spiking the ball every play. Now, after two games with the Packers, Willis has a 122.7 passer rating and a 0.0% turnover-worthy play rate. He's one of just three quarterbacks with at least 45 dropbacks to avoid a turnover-worthy play this season.

Entering Week 4, the Green Bay Packers rank third in offensive DVOA and boast a top-ten offense in EPA/play. Malik Willis has ranked as a top-five passer in QBR for two consecutive weeks. Essentially, LaFleur has managed to cook with the offense in the past two games, despite working with a quarterback who was on the verge of being out of the league.

Matt LaFleur ranks as a top-three head coach in play-caller ratings, effectively utilizing an "easy button" approach that includes RPOs, play action, screens, and motions. According to Next Gen Stats, the Packers lead the league in motion usage, a tactic that was most used by the Miami Dolphins last season, which helped them achieve the top passing offense according to Pro Football Focus.

In recent days, media personalities like Dan Orlovsky and Mina Kimes, both football analysts for ESPN, have praised Matt LaFleur. Ari Meirov, who covers the NFL for The 33rd Team, has also complimented LaFleur’s ability to reinvent Green Bay's offense with Malik Willis at the helm. At his Tuesday press conference, Vikings' defensive coordinator Brian Flores took a moment to compliment Matt LaFleur's recent work: "I don't think it's being talked about enough, what's happening with Malik Willis. For Matt to shift from being a West Coast guy to incorporating zone-read, RPO, and counter-read concepts—it's impressive.

While he has been a respected figure in the league for some time, it's rare to see him recognized as one of the best. LaFleur undoubtedly deserves this recognition and has the resume to prove it.

We can look back at other accomplishments to highlight LaFleur’s career in Green Bay so far. Last year, he coached the youngest team in the NFL since the 1970s to the postseason and became the first head coach to win a playoff game as the seventh seed. He also produced three straight 13-win seasons, including back-to-back 13-win seasons during a turbulent relationship between the front office and Aaron Rodgers.

Every Packers fan should be grateful for Matt LaFleur. He is unquestionably the right person to lead Green Bay back to the Super Bowl. It has been 13 seasons since the green and gold reached the big game, but LaFleur has the roster and the scheme in place to make a successful run in 2024.

Well, this is certainly a lot different from what we were saying about him less than a year ago, when he was 2-5.

Obviously, he wasn't "clueless". "weak". or "the problem".

If you want to crown him, crown him, but it'd be a whole lot easier if we'd win The Trophy this year.

He appears to have grown into the job. He appeared to me complicit in being undermined by the former quarterback, and last year at 2-5 he still seemed to be coping with that PTSD.

I shaded him for many things, his hiring practices in particular, but what he's been able to do in two weeks with Willis shows me that he is an heir apparent to Shanahan. Whether he grew into the job or I matured into seeing it I'm not sure, but give the man his flowers, he's been outstanding from the last half of the season thru today.

He’s a great play designer. He did a great job scripting for Willis. He didn’t really adjust much in either game, but one could argue he’d done enough already. As to him being a great head coach, if Hafley succeeds and Love and the team thrive then maybe we can have a discussion.

It’s too early in the season to judge much of meaning in terms of the overall coaching or the answers to questions from prior years. Promising signs after a disappointing week one. Fingers crossed those signs are still at the forefront of our minds in a week, let alone December.

He had a good plan last season for Frits's D. You know they're both going to watch that game and plan accordingly. May the best man win (MLF)!

Coach LaF has been a winner with his PUNCH line this season so far. Now, I know he steers the offense.

I have one request...please dear God and the Packer's D...don't let Aaron Jones (who I really, really like) score a TD(s) and do a Lambeau Leap in the arms of some Vikings faithful sitting in Row 1 at LAMBEAU FIELD.

I don't think I could stomach it...not for 1 second.

I will steal a word from ol' Vic (I miss that guy and his insight): winsome. I will take win some over awesome.

When #12 was wearing green and gold, I didn’t think much for Coach LaFluer’s ability to handle the job. Since #12’s departure my opinion on MLF has drastically changed, he has grown into a top notch head coach. The experience factor plays into it, but he seems to be a lot more relaxed now than with his decision making.

It's nice to see the job appreciation.
MLF wanted Rodgers back.
You guys shouldn't forget that.
But that hasn't stopped him.
He's made the most of what he has.
And No matter how Gute tried to screw him up.
He's shown it doesn't matter who the QB is.
He can beat the odds.
Given a few less screw ups by Gute.
He'll get the Packers to the super-bowl.

Hey Stockholder, you do realize that every GM has screw ups, it’s the nature of the beast. Gutey just seems to have less screwups than 90% of the GM’s out there. Oh, and Mlf is a very good coach and an offense play calling wizard. I felt that way during his beginning years as well as now.

He just needs to post something stupid and of the wall! He has to be going into withdrawals with this little two game win streak the Pack has going. He'll burst like a 40 year old virgin with our next loss.

“ Gute tried to screw him up.”

Making sure I understand your comment. You’re saying Gutenkust purposely did things or does things currently on purpose, so that the organization and its football team, and by extension also the team’s HC, could not and cannot win football games. Again, Gutenkust does this on purpose.

No - Gute is not judged on wins and Loses.
A coach is!
I'm saying Gute has taken advantage of current
situations.
Only to go from favorites, to status- Qua.

Highly debatable on whether MLF wanted old #8 back!

Jesus...Al...the above picture is a winner for your 3 Things articles.

That, or Larry, Curly and Moe.

Now let's make it interesting. What would be the pairings of the 3 Stooges and Charlie's Angels?

Okay, gotta go save the world,
