CheeseheadTV Packers Draft Predictions - 2025
CheeseheadTV writers tell you who they think the Packers first round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft will be.
By JerseyAl
Here you have it - our annual futile attempt at predicting who Brian Gutekunst will select with the Packers' first round pick.
Mitchell Adams - Emeka Egbuka. Packers could use an excellent route runner and trust worthy who comes with winning experience on the big stage. If he is available at pick 23 Packers draft him breaking the “first round no receiver” curse.
Tim Backes - Will Johnson. It really feels like CB is the position of need, so I'm going with Will Johnson of Michigan. The Packers absolutely need help on the perimeter with Jaire being most likely outta here, and I believe Johnson is more likely than other prime contender Jahdae Barron of Texas to still be on the board.
Jersey Al Bracco - Derrick Harmon. The Packers are always looking ahead to impact players that will need to be replaced. Kenny Clark could be on his last year with Green Bay, as there would be huge cap space benefits to letting him go after this season. Harmon can initially help soften the loss of TJ Slaton this year and take over as a full-time starter for Kenny in 2026. (Note: MY HOPE is that it's Kenneth Grant, but I think he'll be picked in the teens.)
Kevin Gibson - Jayden Higgins (trade back). I see GM Brian Gutekunst falling back on past Packers tradition, trading back into the later first or early second round from No. 23 to grab WR Jayden Higgs at a nicer price. The depth at defensive line in this draft offers plenty of options later to boost the interior pass rush.
Cory Jennerjohn - Walter Nolen. I actually think Packers general manager will trade down and load up on more picks and put the entire Green Bay community in an uproar. But if the Packers do make a pick, I'm leaning toward Ole Miss defensive tackle Walter Nolen. He's 6-foot-3 and 304 pounds that will go a long ways to clogging up the middle and stopping the run.
Austin Kreuger - Kenneth Grant: The Packers have no true NT going into the future with Slaton leaving and Clark in his final seasons. Grant is the top run defender in the most ground and pound conference in college football who causes chaos lined up over center. A true disruptor up the middle in both pass rush and run defense is exactly what Green Bay is missing and what Grant would provide for the next decade.
Maggie Loney - Mykel Williams. A 20-year-old Georgia Bulldog whose best football is in front of him? That sounds like a Gutekunst pick. The pass rush needs an injection of talent and this draft is deep at defensive tackle, so grab an edge rusher while one of the best in the class is available and fill other needs (WR, CB, DL) on day two.
Gil Martin - Tetairoa McMillan: The Packers may need to trade up to get him, but he'd fit the bill as an immediate impact wide receiver. His size makes him a different kind of target for Jordan Love.
Mitchell McLaughlin - Matthew Golden. The Packers break the 23-year drought of not taking a first round wide receiver with Texas' Matthew Golden. Golden fits both the age and production requirements for what Brian Gutekunst would like in a first round prospect.
Greg Meinholz - Will Johnson. This may be more of a wish than a prediction, but Johnson is an instinctive corner with good ball production who can play zone and man coverage at a high level. His injury question and lack of participation in pre-draft workouts may cause him to tumble a bit, but if he’s still there at 23, Gutey should pull the trigger.
Mark Oldacres - Maxwell Hairston. The Packers have not drafted a corner early since 2021, and they will do it this year. This corner class is full of prospects who are injured, didn’t test, or both, leaving Hairston, who will attend the draft in Green Bay and is one of the only true elite athletes the Packers will have access to in the 1st round, as the logical choice.
Mike Price - Derrick Harmon. Sometimes the most popular mock draft result actually becomes the pick. Harmon can play with just about everyone on the Packers' d-line: he can stuff the run at 3-tech next to Kenny Clark and rush the passer from the nose next to Devonte Wyatt.
Joseph Randolph - Jihaad Campbell. Campbell's versatility meets a need at both LB and Edge. His combined instincts against the run, ability to rush the passer, with coverage skills to boot presents a defender who almost never has to come off the field.
Dan Saia - Derrick Harmon. He can up and down the defensive line for Green Bay and be a game changer they lacked last season. He can also restock a position that could see significant turnover next season.

I like most of the CHTV picks but it's tough to place a bet with Gute as the wildcard. I'm in with the Harmon crowd. I think Egbuka is a very solid pick but he takes us out of the DT sweepstakes. The SB clock is ticking...

Golden and Hairston I wouldn’t touch. Hairston is not a bad player but he’s not likely to hold up well on the perimeter consistently against NFL receivers, in terms of outcome and probably durability. As such he’s not a first rounder.
Golden will be a good player for someone but he’s not going to play the Z role Doubs had been filling with all the dirty work. He’s simply not big enough or physical enough. He’s definitely not a size threat who can block like Watson. So he doesn’t fit the X role in our O either, even if he can consistently beat press with pure speed/suddeness. He’d be just another small speedster. Do we want to use Reed less? Just not a fit.
Other than those, I’d be happy with the others. McMillan comes with the proviso that he’s not seen as replacing Watson. As a Z I love him, but we still need a size/speed pick later. I’d take him over Egbuka in that Z based role. To me, Egbuka is a second rounder and I prefer Harris or Royals. McMillan would give LaFleur a freakish piece at Z through which he can showcase his much vaunted offensive genius.
I still think the optimal outcome in this draft has us trading back and adding mid round picks. I think there’s an opportunity to trade back a small distance a couple of times and still harvest a prime crop but with a key couple of extra picks in a draft where there is real value in the mid rounds.

For what it's worth I think Gute will take either DL Kenneth Grant or Edge Donovan Ezeiruaku whoever is highest on his board.

Like Cory Jennerjohn I too would like to see the entire Green Bay community in an uproar. Trade down--
and grab ANY TWO of:
Walter Nolen
Kenneth Grant
Tyleik Williams
54. Aireonte Ersery
87. Harrold Fannin

Where is the love for the CHTV Draft Guide - which featured Stewart on it's cover? Especially from the Contributors? Now I realize that Cooper DeJean was on last year's cover. But despite not being selected by the Packers - was he not a fine rookie? I expect the same outcome this year for Shemar Stewart. So - in a few hours - if Stewart is available at 23 - I would welcome him to the Green Bay Packers.

I think Gutekunst will draft a defensive player, a DL. If it's a DE, it'll be a good size DE, not some small, quick guy.
Harmon or Shemar Stewart. I think it'll be Stewart, which would be hugely ironic considering so many of the cognoscenti think he should be avoided.

Who did Brian Gutekunst really choose?
