General Info:

Football was in Beau Brade’s blood, his father played football at Virginia Tech. He grew up in Maryland, so of course he chose to go to Maryland over offers from Michigan, North Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and others. He was just a three-star prospect coming out of high school. Brade spent most of his freshman year playing special teams, finishing that season with a total of 24 snaps on defense. In his second season he received a bigger role but, still pretty small due to all the depth ahead of him. The former Terp played in 12 games and collected 14 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, and one sack. The Maryland native became a starter in 2022 and lead the team in tackles with 85, Brade also collected 4 TFLs, 2 INTs, 5 PBUs and two FFs. Brade decided to return for a final season in 2023 and lead the team in tackles again. He was voted a team captain and finished the season with 75 tackles, 4 TFLs, 1 INT, 1 FF and 6 PBUs. He attended both the Senior Bowl and the Combine although he did not do any testing at the combine.

Positional Skills:

Strengths

He is versatile, in two years as a starter he has 707 snaps at free safety, 169 in the slot and 603 in the box. He plays with an aggressive, physical demeanor; despite his average size he can deliver a pop as a tackler. Brade takes good angles to ball carriers. When he tackles, it’s usually for no gain or a loss. The Maryland native shows good range on film. He shows ability to quickly react on film and change direction. He shows explosiveness on the field, especially when he clicks and closes. He has shown on film the ability to find lanes in order to attack ball carriers. On film he shows short area explosiveness and solid range. When he wants to he can find the ball and make a play on it. The former Terrapin has shown to be sticky in coverage against tight ends. He has also shown good timing on knocking away deep balls (fades, posts, corners, etc…). Brade has shown flashes on film of being able to jump routes and read the offense.

Weaknesses

He has a tendency to play the man when in coverage instead of the ball, that is one of the reasons for his low ball production. Brade can be fooled by double moves in coverage. He’s not the type of defensive back you want covering little slot receivers, he lacks the patience and his route recognition skills still need work. He will occasionally take a false step or get caught flat footed, it hasn’t hurt him much in college, but will need to be cleaned up in the NFL. His long speed is pretty average. Brade can be a little out of control sometimes and over-pursue.

Fit with the Packers:

Brade would be a good fit for Green Bay because of his solid play and versatility, he can play a number of roles for the defense. Don’t expect him to be a big time ball magnet, due to his low ball production and the physical nature to his game. He is a solid all-around player who can play in the box and over the top, and he can even cover some tight ends. Brade would probably play the box role due to his play style and skill set. With some work, especially on playing the ball more and some other technical aspects, he could develop into a starter. The former three-star recruit would be a good pick early on day three.
